Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
Sony's MDRV700DJ series DJ headphones feature convenient, reversible swivel earcups for DJ and remix applications (great for single-sided monitoring) and an auto-return swivel mechanism that snaps the earcups back to standard listening positions. Silver finished for a sleek, professional look, the set's folding design allows for easy storage and portability.

These headphones use high-end materials and advanced engineering for critically clean, exceptionally clear sound aimed at professional and high-fidelity applications. The MDRV700DJ offers 3,000 mW power handling for the most stringent professional applications and daily use at very high output levels. Their Neodymium magnets pack more magnetic energy per ounce than conventional Ferrite, Samarium Cobalt, or Aluminum magnets for high sensitivity and output (107 dB/mW).

The headphones supra-aural design ensures excellent listening comfort, resting lightly on the ears, and creates a controlled environment for better sound. A wide, molded headband distributes the headphone's weight over your whole head; reduced pressure means comfortable listening for hours on end. The MDRV700DJ even has a serrated area on the plug that acts as a "hanger"--plugged into a rack of equipment, the headphones can hang on the plug when not in use.

Large, 50 mm drivers deliver deep bass down to an impressive subsonic 5 Hz and provide outstanding dynamic range, bolstered by Sony's use of a neodymium magnet for maximal energy from minimal size. A detachable, single-sided cord lets you listen at a distance of 10 feet from your source, while its oxygen-free-copper design delivers maximal conductivity with minimal noise.

5 out of 5 stars Great headphones   July 10, 2008
I have only had these headphones for about 2 months but so far my experience with them has been excellent. I use them mostly on my computer or ipod but they also sound great on the stereo using the plug attachment. I am not a dj and never will be, but I listen mostly to rock and these headphones have a good deep bass and clear vocals. They will fit pretty much any size head and have large, well-padded ear cups. They are very comfortable for extended use, I have worn them for hours at a time without any problems at all. Don't block out much noise, but work well in most situations.

They are very comfortable and have great sound, and if you can find a deal on them somewhere, they are one of the best headphones out there.

2 out of 5 stars excellent quality, but big, heavy and too hot   July 6, 2008
bought this phone just for casual usage, to listen music and movies at home.

on the plus side, the quality is awesome, excellent bass and good isolation from external noises.

on the minuses, this thing is bulky and super heavy. It causes too much pressure on your head and hurts just a few minutes after putting them on. Also the cups make way too much heat, and you can barely stay with them on after an hour or so.

It may be a good headphone for DJs (that are constantly putting them on and off), but for continuous usage there may be better options.

5 out of 5 stars The best I've heard!   June 20, 2008
I just purchased the Sonys and I'm excited to share the experience. First, I've owned several different headphones in past, the last being the Sony MDR-V6. I thought it would be impossible to improve on them...but Sony has done it.

Comfort: The 700s are all-day comfortable. The earcups fit AROUND your ears, so there is no annoying pressure there. The headband is nicely padded too, so you simply forget you're wearing anything at all. They are 'hefty' and robustly constructed, yet that weight simply disappears once you put them on. They're attractively designed, too...with a professional style.

Sound quality: Like I said earlier, Sony has worked magic here. The resolution and detailing these phones provide will have you hearing things "for the first time"...you'll hear things in music you never knew existed. I am pulling things out of my collection and literally enjoying them for the first time. The bass extension is phenomenal...a concert bass drum-smack or pipe organ will have you giggling like a kid! But they don't stop there...the mids and highs are equally well-produced.

The phones are fairly sensitive too...my small headphone amp drives them quite nicely to db levels that doctors would tell you "no-no!!" But they sound so good...you wanna keep cranking the volume!

Sony thoughtfully provided a nice long cord, too...it's coiled so it doesn't get in the way.

Oh, my...the kickdrum in Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" just about blew my eyeglasses off! Yeehaw!!

Buy them...you will not regret it!

5 out of 5 stars over 3 years of use!   June 3, 2008
I bought these headphones 3 years ago!! I used them quite a lot, and as all the other reviews you can find here, mine broke, yes they did, but looking in the market for other options in the same price range, all I found was that the design of the Sony V700, the sound quality, the durability and the price make them the best option. I just bought my second pair of these and I know the will do the job just good.
