I use this product to switch between multiple component sources - directtv receiver, ps3 and dvd jukebox player. Works very well.
Fantastic, Compact Device. Probably the cheapest way to switch Toslink September 24, 2008
I picked this device up because I needed a way to switch Toslink (optical audio) to my receiver, and I wanted something remote controllable. It's worked brilliantly for me.
A few high points for me:
- You can use it as a generic RCA switcher (so if you want, you could actually use it to switch multiple RCA audio devices per channel, or to switch composite... though that's probably a waste).
- Depending on your setup, you may get more than 3 devices out of it. I'm switching a cable box, an XBox 360, a Wii, and a PS3 on this. Since the PS3 doesn't need video, and the Wii doesn't need a TOSLink connection, they can both live on the same channel.
- Being able to remote control it is pretty much essential for me since I have so many devices and use a Harmony to control it. This device was already in the Harmony database, no manual programming required.
I've seen some reviews where people have complained of noise in the lines or voltage spikes switching audio. I have no personally experienced this, though. I'd recommend getting a replacement if you get it, as those are likely defective units.

Excellent! It really works perfectly. No image or sound quality loss and greta remote control. Conducts in an excwellent way HD image signals. A must have.
Works effectively - good product August 29, 2008
I purchased this switch because I had too many optical sources and only one optical input on my home theater receiver. I had previously tried a Toslink optical splitter, which worked for about five minutes, if that. I purchased this switch and it works brilliantly. Previous reviewers have said the IR receiver has a hard time picking up the signal from the remote, but I have had no issues with that, however, I am using a Logitech Harmony One remote. There is no lag whatsoever in the audio; it is perfectly in sync with the video.
The bottom line is, if you have more optical sources than inputs, this switch should work for you.
