Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Logitech Harmony 1000 features a brilliant 3.5-inch color touch screen that allows for one-touch activity-based control of even the most sophisticated A/V components. Say goodbye to the inconvenience of multiple remotes controlling multiple devices; Logitech's patented Smart State Technology makes it easy to control your HDTV, adjust aspect ratios, or change sound modes?there are no complicated macros to program. Just press an on-screen activity icon and Harmony does the rest. One remote is all you'll need to control even the most complex home entertainment systems. And when used together with a Harmony RF Wireless Extender (sold separately), you can further reduce clutter by placing your components out of sight. Since the remote can transmit both infrared and radio frequency commands, you can control equipment inside a cabinet or even in the next room. Package Contents - Logitech Harmony 1000 remote control / Charging station / USB cable /AC Adapter / Lithium-ion battery / Installation CD / Installation guide / 1-year warranty

5 out of 5 stars Harmony 1000 works well   July 5, 2008
I've been using the Logitech Harmony 1000 for over a year now and overall this product works well. Programming is a freeze and the remote navigation is very simple. The only issue that I've run into are random lock-up's where the remote stops working for no reason. When this happens the only way to correct is to remove the battery allowing the remote to reboot itself. However, I am happy to report that a recent firmware update has just about corrected the issue. So the key is to stay up to date with all software and firmware updates for this remote. As others have reported it does take some getting use to as the touch screen is great but there is a learning curve if you are use to TV surfing without looking at the remote. This remote is expensive no doubt but worth it as once you have every device configured/programmed the way you want there is no turning back.

1 out of 5 stars An Iloitech Device   July 5, 2008

Don't waste your time or money. I've been such a Logitech fan that they commissioned a PR company to write a story on how I use their ioPen to design products. They would not want to publish my feelings about the illogically-designed user-unfriendly Harmony 1,000; the single worse product execution I've ever seen. I wanted a single controller for my my Samsung LN 4665F flat screen, DirecTV HD-DVR, Toshiba HD-XA2KN, Sony BDP-S and Bose Cinemate. All I got was 4 hours of fruitless-frustration. In the end, the Harmony could not do half of what DirecTV HD DVR controller could do.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   June 27, 2008
When my old universal remote bit the dust, I went over to Best Buy and looked at the various remotes available. I then saw all the negative reviews of the Harmony line and was really scared to get one. Glad I ignored the negative reviews and got it.

I am not sure why most people find the PC interface so difficult. I had absolutely no problem. You just have to go in with the knowledge that it is function based rather than device based. The software deals with all the nasty 'macros' behind the scenes to make everything work seamlessly. Setup was a breeze and it worked perfectly. It works much better than any other remote I ever had. Has no problem turning the correct devices on and off, switching inputs and seems to have all the important buttons working correctly.

Only one device, a 400 disk Sony DVD player was not in their DB, but using the original remote it was able to figure out which codes to use. Very cool.

I originally got a 550 Harmony but was so impressed with it that I bought the 1000 and gave the 550 to my wife to use. I found the 1000 easier to read without glasses than the 550.

This is a great product and I would definitely buy it again. Amazon sells these remotes for 50% below Circuit City and Best Buy. Otherwise there was not way I could see spending $500 on this!

5 out of 5 stars The best remote in the market fot the price you pay   June 17, 2008
I did a research for at least 2 weeks looking for the best remote control. Not Only Amazon products, the entire web (Bang olufsen, harman kardon, monster, Phillips etc.) Finally I decided to buy this one for the following reason:
*Price (Specially on Amazon!!)
*Cost-Benefit have must of the same features of an USD 800 remote.
*Appearance: I want something elegant, modern and different (Looks like a USD 2000 home automation remote)
*The programming is for dummies, really easy to set up (Did all features in 1 hour)
*Compatible with almost all my equipments (except Bose lifestyle 12 unfortunally )
*The activities feature is really cool and saves time.
*Can add my favorite channels with icons and one touch
*Can control other things like lights, curtains etc.
Maybe if I can add more features I add the following:
*Wifi and bluetooth capabilities
*Icon personalization for the activities.
*Less steps to go for an specific device

In my home Works with:

*52 LCD Bravia XBR4
*Apple TV
*PS3 (With the usb IR)
*Harman Kardon DVD 38
*Motorola cable deco
*Living Room Dimmers
Now plan to upgrade my Bose in order to use the entire solution.

3 out of 5 stars Still waiting   June 15, 2008
From a purchase stand point, there has never been any problems with Logitech. Over all I have been very satisfied with Logitech, they provide affordability without having to sacrafice technology. But, when it comes to the 1000, I expected alot more that it had to offer. Basic programing is simple and if basic programming is all you look to do, the Harmony is really sharp with the color LCD, but when I decided to combine some advanced operations, the Harmony really showed its true colors. Out of the box, my computer would not read the remote correctly, it was only after a week of trying on and off for hours at a time, and four or five customer service reps later, that I was able to get the remote to operate my electronics. There has been program updates which have helped alot, but the real problem that I personal have is that I have a Philips HD TV and a Philips HD all in one theater system. When I try to turn one on seperately, they both turn off, or the one that was off, turns on...etc. Honestly the remote has been collecting dust for the past month, because with my work scheadule, I don't have hours to talk to a customer service rep (who is reading off a screen)try to fix my problems. Objectively, I know that all of my electronics are very new (08' models) so there is going to be some lag, for Logitech to come up with some patches for the program. I look forward to when everything will work correctly. So as I said, if you just want to consolodate your different brand remotes, the harmony will do fine, but don't try to get to fancy, becuase you are going to have to devote hours to get it to work.
