Great Sound June 8, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great receiver with awsome power, however the on screen guide, programming and remote control need some refining.

While I am not an experienced audiofile, I have been extremely impressed with this product. The sound is better than any I have ever experienced, and coupled with my KEF 3000 speaker system, I am in heaven.

Highly recommened by real audiophiles, however it was very complicated to set up. The manual was difficult to understand. Now that I have it working I'm pleased.
If sound quality is your priority, buy Rotel instead. March 30, 2007 3 out of 10 found this review helpful
My last receiver was a Denon, and I was impressed with it, so I naturally assumed Denon would be my first choice again, given their reputation for excellent receivers. I listened to it and felt something was missing; it didn't quite sound natural. I then tried a Rotel, and the sound quality was truly astounding, the best I've ever heard. I bought the Rotel that same day, despite the fact that it has fewer features and looks a little antique.
Do yourself a favor and at least listen to a Rotel before you buy; it makes ordinary CD music sound clearer and more natural than any of the "mainstream" brands. Even relatively extreme passages that sound harsh or gritty on other receivers sound normal on a Rotel. If sound is more important to you than features, the Denon is NOT your best choice (nor is Pioneer Elite).
Can't run it. January 16, 2007 12 out of 31 found this review helpful
This is not a bad unit, just difficult to operate. Audiophiles pass on, this is not for you. 20 years ago I would have loved this unit. Today I don't want to have to study owners manuals for two weeks, OK? This is a complicated piece of equipment, and if you don't want to go to school to learn how to use it, it will be the audio/video hell you've never imagined existed. I do not believe it's Denon, but any new sophisticated audio/vidio equipment. I don't blame Denon, I'm just disappointed someone can't build better simplicity for us baby boomers who have outgrown owners manuals. This system is integral to the operation of all of your audio/video equipment. I get the system working, and my wife, who can barely operate a car, has it all day, and I come home to no sound, no DVD, no you pick it. I don't blame Denon, I blame myself for buying it in the first place. This system is a great bargain for audiophiles, a disaster for pilgrams.
