Product Description Harman Kardon is proud to offer its finest A/V and stereo receivers ever, designed to provide years of superb audio performance and unsurpassed ease of use. These receivers are more user-friendly than ever, with features such as patented EzSet remote control, MP3 playback, Logic 7 and VMAx. Of course, the heart and soul of all Harman Kardon receivers is a high-current capability, ultrawide-bandwidth amplifier for undistorted, unwavering power. And every receiver uses convection, fanless cooling for quiet and reliable operation. With the HK 3470, Harman Kardon opens a new era in audio performance by offering its most powerful stereo receiver in 27 years.
Amazon.com Product Description The HK 3470 is a full-featured stereo receiver with five inputs and an FM stereo/FM mono/AM tuner with capabilities that provide for the utmost flexibility. Even a high-quality phono input is included so that you can continue to enjoy your existing record collection as well as the latest CD recordings. The HK 3470 is the world's first stereo receiver to offer VMAx. VMAx is a proprietary signal-processing technique that creates an open, spacious sound field when only two loudspeakers are available. VMAx circuitry is able to decode the ambience of a concert hall or theater from a stereo recording. At the center of the HK 3470's performance is a Harman Kardon-designed, high-current, ultrawide-bandwidth amplifier with an output of 100 watts per channel. Separate speaker 1 and speaker 2 outputs give you the option of high-quality sound in two different locations. For added depth and flexibility, Harman Kardon has added pre-out/main-in jacks for use with external amplifiers, equalizers, and signal processors. A subwoofer output and tape monitor loop are also included. The receiver itself features a digital AM/FM tuner with 30 station presets and direct-access tuning. Infrared remote extension jacks let the receiver be controlled by remote, even if the infrared sensor is blocked due to cabinet doors or other obstructions, through the use of an external sensor. These convenient features, combined with an included full-function, programmable remote control, make the HK 3470 one of the most user-friendly receivers Harman Kardon has ever built. Harman Kardon offers a two-year warranty on parts and labor for the HK 3470.

Solid Performer November 15, 2003 I have owned the HK 3470 about a year now. I purchesed the 3470 because it has Pre-out/ Main in connections which allows the use of an equalizer. I mainly use the 3470 to power a large pair of Cerwin Vega S-2 EE Speakers for a friends outside party twice a year. These speakers have 15" woofers, 6 1/2" mids and tweeters. These speakers are made to handle up to 250 watts. The Hk 3470 throws the power to them very well. I play loud dance music and the amp does a great job! Adding the Equalizer really helps to dial in the sound on the Cerwin Vega's.A very good Stereo amp with decent power.
this reciever ruined my table and I don't even like it July 18, 2002 0 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought this amp and I HATE it. This component left BLACK, NON-removable, stained FOOTPRINTS on my once beautiful component table. Endless hassles for menu options that don't make sense, outputs that output for some things and not others (for instance: their "multi-out" will only output cd sound, and if you were to listen to a DVD the sound would cease for no apparent reason). 5 channel stereo should pass analog signal, but it doesn't. So I tried the "tape" outputs, and the FM radio comes out too now (hooray!) but still no DVD sound passes through the analog out. There is no method to their madness. The "hall" effect is horrible, turn it on and then put your head in between the center speaker and right-front to hear this horrid zig-zag featureless chop they call "hall" mode. uggh, I hate this amp.

The reciever is good, however it falls short in two important areas. It fails to include a tone defeat for the treble-bass controls and no loudness function and sounds in the treble region sound compressed, not really clear. For... more the DENON DRA 685 has these important features + a cleaner mid and treble region while retaining good clear bass. Not that I am a DENON fan but, for this price range for a good 2 channel reciever the sound and features should be better.

The Hk3470 sounded great out of the box. The sound was clean with no discernable noise. The VMAX circuit sounded better on non vocal music. The insructions for tape recorders were not too clear but all in all it is a great receiver.

The Harman and Kardon is a great deal at ...Its amp section drives speakers with authority and its classic looks will please the eye. In this world of low power surround sound recievers the 3470 is a breath of fresh air from the old school...
