Sony SA-W2500 Subwoofer October 15, 2008 Francis D. Groboski If you don't live in a castle and just want to fill in the "lows" of your existing speakers the 100Watt SA-W2500 fits the bill for less than $100. Hookups are for any type of amp/receiver and will definitely bring out the bass sound you've been missing. A great deal thru Amazon.
Good Musical Bass With Mod October 8, 2008 Carl Rutschow I bought this sub to compliment by bookshelf speakers on my computer. For music I thought the bass sounded a little lose and muddy so I stuffed an old T-shirt in the bass reflex port to see if that would help (since ported woofers are often somewhat under-damped). It did make a significant improvement in the transient response. Sharp bass sounds such as from a bass drum or string bass sound much tighter and more realistic. This mod may reduce the maximum bass output somewhat but I was more interested in good musical sound rather than maximum loudness.
Nice Addition! October 7, 2008 K. Carman (Iowa) This sub was a very nice addition to my system. I am very happy with the purchase I made. The only concern I have is that the sub cable it came with was pretty junky and flimsy. I didn't think it let the sub reach its full potential so I purchased a Belkin PureAV AV20500-15 15-Foot Subwoofer Audio Cable and now it sounds fantastic!
Excellent sub-woofewr for the price October 2, 2008 G. Austin (Hemet, CA) Sub-woofer delivers a deep room shaking bass to a 24' by 18' room. Easy to hook up and I would recommend plug into a switched outlet on your receiver/ amplifier if available. Much more convenient. The price for this sub is the best you can find anywhere for the quality. Shipping of $6.99 across country is great too. Also looks great and blends well in the room. I highly recommend the Sony product and especially this store.
You Get What You Pay For July 8, 2008 Ainsley Campbell (minneapolis) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm no pretentious audiophile, but I love my movies and my music. I gave this sub a shot based on the reviews and the fact that I was on a REAL tight budget; I'm going to have to split with the crowd on this one: If all you want is RUMBLE, then this is the ticket. It is literally a Boom box. HOWEVER, a subwoofer is not just supposed to make the walls shake - it's supposed to accurately reproduce low frequency sound. this is important for listening to music. The Sony did not do this for me. I played with the crossover settings, volume, and placement. I ended up leaving it on extremely low settings because all it was good for was rumbling. It was not tight, and did not really fill in low frequencies until cranked - which of course just meant lots of boom boom boom. If all you want is cheap rumble for your HT then this may work, but if you also want accurate, tight bass for your music (and really, a decent sub should be able to do both), then look elsewhere.
