Simply awesome!!! June 30, 2008 First of all, I bought this unit at a price of a "steal"!!! Here in the Philippines, 605s are sold at USD800 (considering that they are made in Malaysia, a neighbor country of Phils.)i wouldnt mind paying for another USD200 for shipment & tax.
When im done setting up with my PS3, upconverting DVD, and set of Wharfedale diamond 9.5,9cs,9.1 & 9DFS, I am not happy with the sound i'm hearing. The sound dont have much difference from my previous set-up (onkyo 494)& im a bit frustated.
I've read the manual & decided to run the audyssey, but still audyssey didnt give me the sound im expecting to hear from my new system. Audyssey set my system's speakers at full band with subwoofer.
I went to AV forums and lurk there looking for answers. I came across a thread that tells me to adjust the crossover settings at 80hz after running the audyssey which I did. I tried playing Susan Wongs audiophile CD & WOW!!! I cant believe what im listening!!! Clear, balance sound & made my speakers sing with sweet melody. This is an awesome product!!!
Connection to Octigon Switch June 25, 2008 I am using this unit with a Tivo and a Octigon 3X8 switch all on HDMI. I could not get the HDMI output to my TV to work with the switch however it worked great connected to the TIVO. I connected the Onkyo HDMI input to my switch and the connected the TV also directly to the switch. That worked great (good thing I only have 7 TVs).
Needs a better FM receiver June 23, 2008 I have this receiver hooked up to a 7.1 surround system, and it works great. I used the included microphone to automatically adjust the speaker volume levels but, I didn't quite agree with the chosen levels, so I manually went in and adjusted them. I would have given this receiver five stars, except for the fact that the FM receiver doesn't pick up anything but extremely close stations. I live approximately 50 miles from most major stations, but to have several FM receivers that can pick up the FM stations very well. The only way this receiver will work for listening to FM stations will be if I hook it to an external antenna.
Onkyo SR605 June 20, 2008 Onkyo SR605 is a quality receiver for the price. I highly recommend it for those people who don't want to spend a lot for a receiver, but want high quality sound. It can be a little difficult hooking up the connections if you are putting the receiver in a cabinet.
I love it !!!! June 18, 2008 Lets just easily start with the biggest understatment possible - this reciever should be priced much more for what it does - for it's price it provides you with a quality that exceeds what anyone could want as a new or upgraded audio/video receiver.
It allows you to connect everything in your entertainment center to it - and sends all your connected devices to your tv using a single HDMI cable - this elimintates tons of expensive cables , and the huge mess of them behind your tv " especially good if you have a wall mounted tv " or pets that try to chew on everything.
The sound quality is phenominal - after using the microphone that comes with the 605 to program itself and adjust to the accoustics of your speaker setup - it becomes apparent that this is the reciver you should have bought from the very begining - I have had mine hooked up with the full 7.1 using mix and matched speakers of my preferance - I actually selected my favorite center channel , rears , sub , and ect. to make sure I was getting the sound I wanted , then let the receiver do the rest of the work setting it up - it cant even begin to explain how amazing my concert Blu rays and HD DVDs sound - I can hear every instrument sing through each speaker as if I was there.
Deffinatly take time to read all the features of this unit since there are many I didnt take advantage of - but deffinatly dont let this receiver be overlooked - it is the best bang for buck guaranteed anywhere !!!
