Great Receiver January 23, 2008 Kevin Beyer Bought this receiver around 2 months ago. Got it hooked up to an Xbox 360 & DirecTV. Absolutely no problems with it so far. Hooked up real easy, although I think one of the previous reviewers was right, would be a heck of a lot easier if I had gotten a set of banana plugs for the speaker wires. Menus are a bit tedious to use, but you only really need to set them up once . Also couldn't get the DirecTV remote to work it properly, it refused to send the volume commands to the receiver - but that looked like a problem with DirecTV, not Sony. Great sound quality, too. All in all, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for 7.1 channel surround sound receiver.
Sony STR-DG910 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver January 20, 2008 happijack (Whitestone NY) I'm totally satisfied with this Sony receiver.Be prepared to study the handbook thoroughly as the menus can get a little confusing. Also do yourself a favor and get banana plugs to hook up your speakers. After all is said and done you will be rewarded with a great receiver. Great January 18, 2008 E. Williams (Phoenix, AZ) I searced a while, read reviews and this is a great receiver. I hooked my Sony Blu-Ray player and Cox HD Converter up to the HDMI inputs and the sound and picture are great. I feel the hdmi upconversion makes my HD picture look better than without. Awesome sound and having the sound field controls to change it to your liking is nice. I used the automatic speaker set up option and the sound fields are better than I have ever had for surround sound. Great product for those in the economical range. I am a Sony fan.
Am I happy with my DG910? Yes! January 14, 2008 D. Plumb (Crown Point, IN) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The upgraded Picture when viewing DVDs is great! The menu system was confusing to me and the Command Remote did not include codes for my other components. I had to buy a learning remote to be able to run all three from one remote. I also bought a Sony SA-FT1H 5.1 Flat Panel Speaker System that works great with the DG 910.
A cheap solution for 3 HDMI, but not without problems January 13, 2008 Andrew Greenstreet (Oregon) 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
In recent months my device collection has grown to include a Man-Mini (as a HTPC), a PS3, and an HDDVD. With three 3 HDMI sources and one HDMI input on my TV, I need a solution that didn't involve sticking my head behind the TV with a flashlight becuase Disney is Blu Ray, Universal is HD DVD and the MacMini is HDMI + Optical audio. (I have since come to the conclusion that I could get a LG Combo HDDVD/BluRay drive to work with the MacMini and trim down to one device, but that is another story for another time). My trusty Kenwood receiver has one optical, two coaxials, and not a single video input above the composite video level. It has served me fine over the years, but it was time for something new. I happened up the DG910 with much excitement; a receiver with 3 HDMI inputs and an impressive list of other features for under $400. The Box: Looked great, brown, red writing, cardboard interior supports rather than styrofoam. Nice. The Unit: Looked great, sleek, black, not too tall. The Sound: The DAC's in this thing must be the cheapest sony could buy. My CD player sounded much better from it's own analog outputs than it did having the DG910 do the conversion. The home theater audio setup never worked quite right, the levels seemed all out of whack. The instructions say to turn the crossover on your sub all the way up (for mine that's 160hz, way too high for my taste). The sound on the unit I had was biased so much to the right that the balance had to go +3 left front to move voices to "middle" of the sound field. The Video: Sometimes when switching between inputs, the screen would go pink. The solution was to switch back to a different input and then back to the one you want. The Menus & Setup: Horribly confusing. I consider myself to be technically pretty savvy. This receiver baffled me. The main menu list made pretty good sense, but go one submenu down and holy cow. Conclusion: Nice Box. Probably could do better for the money with a different receiver and an external, auto sensing HDMI switcher.
