4 out of 5 stars Great value.   August 28, 2007

A little difficult to learn all the menu options without the book. Once you understand it, it performs quite well.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing sound, great value   August 3, 2007

Being a former sound engineer, I had my doubts about the Hoopla on digital amps, but I have to say that I was more than positively surprised by the sound clarity and definition this receiver produces. Basses are clearly defined without being too boomy, mids and treble seem even in all frequencies. If you have some material to play with percussive elements and a wide dynamic range, the receiver will play out its full strength of keeping true fidelity to the source.

I'm only running a stereo setup (KRK 6000) so I cannot talk to the surround sound features.

Only a few very little minuses: Analog input attenuation can only be set for all inputs at once, which can be a little nuisance if your analog CD output is very high and your TV set's output very low. The remote control doesn't let you control bass/treble.

Cool feats: can control all my AV equipment with the remote. Automatic stereo mixdown for multi-channel sources. Optional dynamic compression (2 levels) for the Dolby circuit, which is nice to have late at night when certain movies go from low conversation to car explosions.

Little minuses don't spoil the 5 stars, because the value for money spent is very good.

4 out of 5 stars Good sound, Great value.   July 21, 2007

I've only had mine for a month, but I am very pleased so far. My previous Onkyo 304 burned up in a few months and didn't sound as good. The panasonic is clearer and has good power. Because it is much smaller than the onkyo and seems to run cooler overall, I'm hopeful it will last much much longer than the onkyo (I have the receiver in kind of a tight space). Overall, I don't suggest onkyo at all. My Onkyo DVD changer went out in a month and got repaired under warranty. When the aforementioned receiver died, it was time for me to move on. I'm glad I did. I think most would be quite happy with the Panasonic sa-xr55.

3 out of 5 stars Not what I expected   May 23, 2007

This amp sounds great, but it lacks power and punch. It just doesn't provide consistent steady power.

3 out of 5 stars Nice chip amp   May 21, 2007

The sound that comes out of this unit is not bad. I have not cranked it up passed 1/3 volume, it has been plently loud around that level. The sound quality doesn't destort at that level either. The major down side to this amp is the fact that it doesn't have enough input/out put pairs so splitter may be needed. Also there is no HDMI in/out. I don't really like the controller but I'm using a universal remote now anyways.
