Performs as advertised May 14, 2007 Fred Dibnah (Kingston, Jamaica) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Unlike other reviewers I had no problems with HDMI switching. Only quirk is that occasionally the output from my Motorola HD cable box/DVR gets reset from 480p to 720p (I have an EDTV). br / br /YPAO setup worked exactly as advertised - got speaker distances correct and subwoofer crossover reasonable. Spotted that I had one speaker wired incorrectly. br / br /Changing TV input to S Video to use OSD is a pain, but I don't expect I'll use it much after set-up. br / br /Bought from Crutchfield via Amazon - price on Amazon dropped by $90 a few days after I bought it but unfortunately Crutchfield say they don't price match.
HDMI Unresponsive May 2, 2007 Howard H. Chang (Torrance, CA) 8 out of 15 found this review helpful
I just bought this receiver and connected it to my Oppo HD Up-Converting DVD Player and Direct TV HD DVR. It worked Great in the beginning but for some reason, the HDMI Connection just happened to stop working! I spent about 4 hours testing each HDMI cable, and reading the Instruction manual. The speakers work fine, the IPOD connection works great, but the reason I bought this machine was for the HDMI Connection. I've worked with receivers in the past and know my way around these things, but am I missing something? I hope OneCall will replace this machine with something that works.
Love it April 19, 2007 MrClean 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
I hooked this amp up to an hd flatscreen LCD and an upconvert DVD player using the HDMI input/outputs and 7 athena speakers 2 floor, a center channel, 2 rears and 2 sides. I also hooked up an XM reciever using the dedicated xm port and an IPOD dock using the dedicated ipod port (xm radio and ipod dock (and IPOD-DUH!) all sold seperately. THIS SYSTEM ROCKS. The radio and CD sound is amazing and this system is also great for full room surround sound theater purposes. I like it b/c it's got real conectivty and lots of features. You have a direct hookup for xm and for the ipod so the sound is much better than if you were to hook up your ipod using the ipod headphone jack out to 2 RCA cables. It's a great price point for a sophisticated amp with HDMI and a lot of extra features--especially ifyou are going to use XM or an ipod with the stereo.
Beware HDMI switching April 16, 2007 Rob (Charleston SC) 15 out of 23 found this review helpful
Bought this receiver from Best Buy for $499. Hooked up a Samsung HD860 upconvert DVD player and a new DirecTV HD20-700 to the HDMI ports. The DVD player would start play for a few minutes then disconnect and try to reconnect continuously. Sat box worked fine until you changed the input to something else then it would not reconnect. Most frustrating part was to get it all working again, all the power cords and HDMI cables had to be unplugged. Doing one or the other would not work. Receiver would also shut itself off after a few minutes of playing at moderately high volume. Not sure what the problem was. Wiring all checked out ok. Not a good experience but at least Best Buy took it back with no problem. I'm going with the RX-V659 and forego the HDMI switching.
