4 out of 5 stars Not Bad   August 27, 2008

I bought this receiver to replace a Sony, and it does a good job. I found the Sony easier to set up and a little easier to operate. I am still trying to figure out the surrounds sound modes but for the most part it sounds good. I really like the 4 HDMI inputs but had a little trouble programming the inputs and I am no amateur on such things. The sound is not as full as it was with my Sony but it may be because I have not tweaked things enough. The sound is weaker when on HD channels but this could be because I went cheap with the HDMI cable, should have gone MONSTER. All in all I think this is a good lower level AV receiver definitely worth the money. I haven't had it very long so not sure about its longevity, I hope longer than my Sony. One thing I read in my research before buying was that this receiver got hot, it does, so make sure it is well ventilated. I am hoping it will save me on my heating bill this winter. Oh, I haven't gotten my Dish Network remote to work with the receiver yet; I have looked everywhere and can not find a code that will work. So for now I have to adjust volume with receiver remote and everything else with Dish remote (kind of a pain). If you are looking for most bang for buck I think this is what your looking for.

5 out of 5 stars Used to buy Denon, got tired of overcomplexity   August 26, 2008

This product is great. Out of the box, labels are intuitive, defaults are set for everything and clearly shown, ... I usually get Denon because i thought they were the best. But I always had problems that were hard to debug. This one simply works. I'm selling my other Denon on eBay and getting another Onkyo, truly.

5 out of 5 stars Great value. Consider this Receiver before buying anything else.   August 22, 2008

Very simple to hook-up, easy to do adjustments and most of all is more equipped than receivers twice the price. Some reviewers here complain about the REMOTE. I don't, I use a LOGITECH HARMONY 550 which works great with the TX-SR606 & other components. I hooked up to the 606 my HD-DVD player (Toshiba HD-A2), a PS3 (GT5 is unbelievable with this receiver) and cable box. The picture and sound are SUPERB. Using Monster Cable HDMI and optical. The speakers I'm using are the Klipsch Synergy Quintet II Speaker System & Klipsch Synergy SUB-12 Subwoofer (also an outstanding value). At the moment this receiver for it's price is THE BEST IN THE MARKET. Hands down.

5 out of 5 stars Best Bang for you Buck   August 20, 2008

After months of research on avsforum.com. I went with the Onkyo606 and the Polk Audio Monitor 50s, 30s, and CS1. All purchased from Amazon.com. So happy with the system and goes great with my Samsung 46" 550A. Primarily upgraded to get rid of a sound delay issue on my old sound system with the xbox360 when using optical (affected rock band and lip sync in movies was horrible). Now I run audio and video from the HDMI and the latency is gone.

Great system, no regrets, and and a awesome price.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome receiver !   August 19, 2008

Whoever said this Onkyo 606 is subpar or not 5 star, I think they have some problems connecting or adjusting to work with their components. I have to say this is the best receiver @ $377.80 with 4 HDMI inputs and 1 output, it performs superbly, you get the taste of true hometheater sound & video. Everything works as advertised or reviewed by earlier buyers, I have no problems hooking up or adjusting to my upconverting 1080p HDMI DVD recorder, VCR, DVD players and Samsung 52" LCD 60hz HDTV, hooking up via HDMI. Running on 2 floor Paradigms, 1 Paradigm center, JBL sub, Insignia rear L/R surrounds and Sony bookshelf as L/R surrounds (mix and match as budget allowed years gone by), this 606 delivers very clean and clear, powerful sound and beautiful video on DVDs from blockbuster, even music off FM local stations turns into beautiful music. The bass delivered with beauty, soft, deep and low. My old Pioneer barely wakes my JBL sub except big movies, coming from 5.1 old pioneer Dolby prologic surround to 7.1 all channel True HD & DTS-HD MA is a big trip and well worth, for those who hesitate to upgrade to 7.1 channel, GO FOR IT ! Onkyo 606 is worth every penny bought from Amazon.com. (I am waiting till thanksgiving to get a hand on Blu-ray Sony S350, and that will top off the system) sweet!
PS: make sure you read thorough manual cause that will make setup a smooth and enjoyable ride, especially those who upgrade from older several years old A/V receiver that have no HDMI. read it first, everything is digital now not much of fidgeting like old day, no more analog cord red, blue or yellow, green stuff...just HDMI and volla!
