| Customer Reviews:
I love it !!!! June 18, 2008 Lets just easily start with the biggest understatment possible - this reciever should be priced much more for what it does - for it's price it provides you with a quality that exceeds what anyone could want as a new or upgraded audio/video receiver.
It allows you to connect everything in your entertainment center to it - and sends all your connected devices to your tv using a single HDMI cable - this elimintates tons of expensive cables , and the huge mess of them behind your tv " especially good if you have a wall mounted tv " or pets that try to chew on everything.
The sound quality is phenominal - after using the microphone that comes with the 605 to program itself and adjust to the accoustics of your speaker setup - it becomes apparent that this is the reciver you should have bought from the very begining - I have had mine hooked up with the full 7.1 using mix and matched speakers of my preferance - I actually selected my favorite center channel , rears , sub , and ect. to make sure I was getting the sound I wanted , then let the receiver do the rest of the work setting it up - it cant even begin to explain how amazing my concert Blu rays and HD DVDs sound - I can hear every instrument sing through each speaker as if I was there.
Deffinatly take time to read all the features of this unit since there are many I didnt take advantage of - but deffinatly dont let this receiver be overlooked - it is the best bang for buck guaranteed anywhere !!!
Sounds great but it runs hot! June 18, 2008 Great features for a receiver in this price point. Surround modes sound good and the HDMI switching capability is excellent.
Occasionally I have some strange video issues where the picture (regardless of source)will start jumping around the screen and the only way to fix it is to turn the receiver off and on again.
My only complaint after owning this for a few months is that it gets hot! I mean really hot, if it's been on for any length of time you can't touch the top of the receiver with your bare hands. If you have good air flow in your entertainment center then i say go with this unit, if however you have a closed off area or plan on putting other devices on top of the receiver then i would look at other options.
Good value for the money
Onyko is great, delivery was not so great. June 15, 2008 The receiver is outstanding. However, I do have some concerns about shipping. I selected the "free" shipping when I ordered the unit as I expected to be home when it came. I was called away and the order came about 4 days ahead of its expected delivery date. The delivery tracking indicated that it was delivered on a Tuesday. I got home on Thursday and it was Saturday when I got the item from a neighbor who saw it sitting on my front step. The tracking information indicated that it was picked up at the source by DLH. I did not occur to me that USPS would handle the final delivery nor did I expect that USPS would just leave the item without getting any delivery receipt. High value items like this tend to grow legs sometimes. I had some very anxious moments anyhow! Could Amazon require a delivery receipt for an additional fee paid by the customer? If not, perhaps the risks associated with "free shipping" should be available to the customer when ordering the item. Had it been stolen, would Amazon provide a replacement?
Thanks,
Ed
Love That Onkyo! June 15, 2008 My sister needed a 7.1 A/V receiver for her new home theater room and this one is perfect for her needs. She wanted to spend $300 and this was less. This is excellent quality at a budget price point, though not for a novice to set up; like her. I set it up for her. Gotta love me!
Good price - couple of sore spots June 12, 2008 Firstly, got a great price for the unit a $332 and free shipping. This unit has a couple of problems for me though: 1) there is no switched power receptacle for the sub-woofer to plug in (hence sub-woofer stays on all the time); 2) unit distorts picture from analog VCR when fast forwarding making it hard to know when you get to your spot (skipping commercials etc); 3) unit seems to delay the signal enough to create echoes when you turn on a TV to the same channel; 4) Some functions can't be done from remote (like station presetting); 5) There is no record select making it difficult if not impossible (I haven't figured it out yet) to record from one unit to another (eg: DVD to separate VCR) - my prior switch had a video select and record select in addition to selecting the input source (the record select would allow you to select an source for output to the units that can record).
Don't have an HD TV yet, so can't vouch for the HDMI upconvert logic etc.
Mute and volume buttons could be placed a little better on remote since they're used the most.
