Good for it's price. March 4, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Not a bad product for it's price. Only bad part is setting up the speakers. Can be a bid difficult. But once you read the manual 1-2 times, It can easilly be set up.
Home Theater of your dreams! March 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Combine this receiver with the Yamaha Speakers sold here at Amazon and you've got a theater surrond system that is better than the movie cinemas! The instruction manual is a little confusing and intimidating but thanks to my son in law who has an earlier version of this amplifier I was shaking the rafters in record time. If you get this receiver, here are a few tips. It may seem like overkill but hook up as many cables (coaxial, HDMI if you have this one I didn't, component video, rca, etc) as you got through the DVD player and other digital devices. This amplifier intelligently detects and automatically uses the ultimate sound from each source cable from whatever disk you're viewing. Cool, huh? And too you get this mike that plugs into the receiver. Go to Auto menu from the remote and choose the auto set up option while setting where you usually sit while viewing movies. The receiver will automatically adjust each speaker including the subwoofer for optimum sound. Then if you've got the first Lord of the Rings dvd, play the opening scene and pray that your roof doesn't colapse when the bass kicks in. Of course you can manually adjust your speakers too, but start with the auto out of the box just to get you moving. The only thing I don't like about this receiver are the connectors for the speaker wiring. They work okay but I found them hard to screw in/out. And too, when you hook up your speaker cables use monster cable at least 16 gauge but 14 or 12 is even better. I bought Acoustic Research Oxygen free cable 16 gauge, 100 ft. from Amazon and still had to buy more cable from my local radio shack. The monster cable I bought from radio shack, 25 ft., cost as much as what I got here at Amazon from ANTonline. My room is small too, so I suggest buying 2 spools of the AR cable or monster whichever you choose, but get it from Amazon as the price is probably 50% or more cheaper!
Fantastic! One of the true great A/V receivers November 9, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
One of the few new A/V receivers that has a truly usable & friendly remote control. On screen GUI makes set up (Auto or Manual) & modiicatons a breeze. 9 speaker sound - woosh! A truly musical piece of equipment. Digital & Analogs recordings come alive. You can bring your vinly LP's & tapes new 7.1 channel surround sound. Phono input is a A+ bonus. Replaced Sony's 1997 DAG90ES top of the lne with this new receiver. This one is a much better unit & was 1200.00 cheaper. Movies & music - Fantastic!
