Wow what results! March 16, 2010 Kellee C. Knowles Okay so let me give you a bit of history on me. Last January I started working out very regularly. I started doing the Dance it Off Prevention DVD. That is broken down into four 10 minute routines, I started with two of those and worked my way up from there. By month three I was working out for almost an hour a day (30 minutes of the DVD and 25 minutes on my stair stepper). By July I had lost 15 of the 20 pounds I wanted to lose. It was a slow process, but I felt good about it. Like a moron I gained back 10 pounds after I stopped working out around September.
So about 2 1/2 weeks ago I started doing 30 Day Shred, thinking a 20 minute work out would ease me back into regular exercise. Well let's just say Jillian isn't the type of trainer to ease you into anything and I love her for it! It's true the workouts are only 20 minutes, but I've never worked out so hard in my life! I'm currently on level 2 and it's a KILLER! I'm planning on moving on to level 3 sometime next week, not because I've mastered anything simply because I want to. Jillian is awesome! She doesn't candy coat anything, basically she tells you to get off your lazy a**! Her style may not be for everyone, but I really like it. Over the years I've tried different DVDs and I'm often annoyed with the trainer by the end. For instance I can't stand Denise Austin, she's so sugar sweet she gives me a toothache. So Jillian's quit whining attitude suites me well.
After 2 1/2 weeks I've lost 7 pounds, something that literally took me months last year, I've accomplished in a matter of days with a 20 minute workout. I'm planning on putting in my 30 days and moving on to another Jillian DVD, either Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism or The Last Chance Workout, I haven't decided yet, but I'm so very excited after the results I've achieved from Shred. I can't sing this workouts praises enough...Jillian ROCKS!!!!!
Warmup issue March 16, 2010 J. Pedersen (Omaha, NE USA) I have worked at level 1, level 2 and level 3. I have a few bones to pick with it.
I don't think that appropriate warm up for the legs are given, and in fact I strained calf muscles doing these workouts. I have switched to doing my own stretching beforehand and have had better results (ie. not stiff calf muscles for days afterward).
I now do a R. Simmons workout first "Party Off the Pounds" ... which gets me stretched out. In fact, my heart rate goes up higher in the R. Simmons workout and I have a lot more fun with it. I do the Jillian workout ... because of the strength training and cardio. I don't really care about the ab workout.
I don't appreciate that she stands around half the workout, which is absolutely what she does. She sits there and hollers at you that you aren't working hard enough ... while she is standing there watching her "2 best girls".
I also don't appreciate her repeating time after time that it is a 20 minute workout, when it is 27 minutes.
I guess her type of motivation doesn't particularly work with me. I get mad when I think someone is not straight with me, and to keep repeating that a 27 minute workout is a 20 minute workout ... I don't appreciate it.
good workouts, wish there were more March 15, 2010 Red (MA) This is a great workout. I am a intermediate exerciser 5x week. There are 3 circuit style workouts on this dvd. Level 1, after 2 workouts was too easy so I am now going back and forth from level 2 to level 3. I love that each one is 20 minutes and she packs in a lot in that timeframe with no breaks. There's cardio, strenght training and ab work. I wish however each level had more workouts to mix it up a little,I have to rotate in some other dvds so it doesnt get boring, there's no way I could do just these 2 workouts for 30 days. All in all, a good addition to your workout library.
Good Workout but Tough on the Legs March 15, 2010 M. Sharp (Lansing, MI) I bought this DVD to help me lose about 40 pounds. I've done the exercises on and off for about a month. I recently did five days in a row and have to stop now for at least a day. I was really apprehensive about doing an exercise EVERY DAY with no resting period for your muscles but decided I would give it a shot since other people seemed to be able to do it. I am not someone who exercises regularly. Last night I developed painful shin splints. My calf muscles are very tight and I had a hard time walking last night. There is quite a lot of jumping and lunging involved. Also is hard on the knees.
This is definetly a workout that would help anyone lose some weight but I would caution anyone doing it that doesn't work out regularly. You might want to do it every other day.
Good video workout March 15, 2010 A. Flowe I thought that this was a really good video workout that was clear and easy to follow. It hasn't gotten boring to me yet. Jillian explains things well and the ladies in the back show the moderate way to do the exercise for beginners and the full-speed-ahead way to perform the exercise; it is nice to have a person to focus on instead of trying to modify things on your own. I don't think starting out that it could be done everyday, my muscles needed to rest a day in between. I do really feel a "burn" (in a good way!)and think that for a video, it is an effective workout in 20 minutes. (No annoying music either!)
