Warning before you purchase February 18, 2010 Rick (Maryland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased my Sc-PT960 on 11/17/08. I was looking for a mid range theatre system to compliment my Panasonic TV which I like.
January 2010 - The unit won't power up. Although the unit is barely out of warranty on time the power supply crapped out. I doubt we had more than 20hrs use.
Here's the thing. Try to navigate the Customer Support system or talk to the staff at Panasonic. I really felt I had accomplished something when I eventually got to a human being! They direct the consumer to a local independent repair facilty that charges close to $200 up front. By the time you can get anything accomplished you might as well of saved your time and effort and just purchased something new.
I wasted the time and I'm buying something new but it won't be from Panasonic!!! Their customer satisfaction system isn't! The process is very unhelpful and unfriendly. I felt conned by the time I got thru the process and oh btw "we're changing the product so everything will be new in March, can you contact us then... we do have some great blue ray deals for $900..." I wanted my $363 unit repaired or replaced and my choices ended up to be to pay a minimum of $200 for the repair estimate or a $900 Blue Ray!!!
Not only will I hold myself back from waiting 3 months to make the purchase but it sure as heck won't be from Panasonic. If the power supply craps out after only 20 hours use and Panasonic can't do anything about other than make the consumer jump thru hoops or get upsold then I'll look for a company that stands behind their product.
Almost Perfect January 8, 2010 Daniel Robert Diermayer Excellent sounding system, with great high and low range. Only complaint is that it is advertised as having dts decoding capability. This is not the case on any external device such as a wdtv, roku, or any media player. It only decodes when using the built in dvd player. I realize most systems in this price range don't but for those unknowing souls out there, here is your heads up.
Disappointed With Changer January 5, 2010 R. Johnson (Pacific NW) I've read decent reviews on this product and for the most part feel this is a good product for the money when it comes to the audio/visual reproduction. Here is why you should run away from this product: The DVD changer cartridge is flawed. DVD's get stuck inside the mechanism and you can't get them out.
My unit was repaired once and paid for by Panasonic. When it happened again, they wouldn't pay for it and offered me a coupon for a discount off the price of a new one. I think a consumer should expect a reasonable number of years service from an electronic component. In my case, this unit is used in a vacation home where it is used rarely. It's not abused, overused or misused. So effectively it was only used a few months worth in a normal home.
The wireless surround sound isn't exactly wireless either. There is a fairly large base unit that is wireless and the speakers are wired to the base unit.
This is a great price point for a home theatre system, so I know how tempting it is. Just beware, and if you can find one with a single drawer dvd consider it.
not entirely wireless... June 27, 2009 Vickie (Michigan, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The sound is fantastic, but don't let the "wireless" catch phrase mislead you...the surround sound speakers are connected via speaker wire to a box that provides the sound remotely...easy set up though, and happy with purchase...I bought one refurbished for over 1/2 off "new" price, and it is perfect...
Excellent system, easy setup May 15, 2009 R. Brooks (York, PA) Combined this HTiB with a new Panasonic Plasma. Connected with HDMI to take advantage of the one button/one remote feature. This system works very well, was easy to setup, and is easy to run. I'm very happy.
