The big-screen adaptation of Twilight, Stephenie Meyer's bestselling vampire romance, is aimed squarely at its key demographic: teen girls whose idea of Prince Charming is a brooding, pale, undead teen who could kill you instantly at any moment. Such a prince is more fascinating than frightening to new girl Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), who moves to the rainy-gray town of Forks, Wash., to live with her dad (Billy Burke), the local sheriff who's puzzled by a series of "animal attacks." On her first day at school, Bella appears to (visibly) nauseate her lab partner, Edward (Robert Pattinson). Turns out the scent of her blood is this vampire's "brand of heroin," and his struggle not to kill her causes an irresistible pull toward her. Whether he's attracted for the normal reasons or because she smells especially sweet to him is vague in the book and even less clear on-screen; nonetheless, Bella falls hopelessly in love with Edward, which sets her on a dangerous path when a few nomad vampires show up in town, one particularly keen on tracking the human. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen), Twilight is full of funny moments--not all of which are intentional--and the casting, from Stewart to Bella's self-absorbed friend Jessica (Anna Kendrick) is spot-on. The weakest link, unfortunately, is Pattinson. While he certainly looks the part, his Edward could have used an extra injection of testosterone (Pattinson, who is British, used James Dean as a model for his American accent). In scenes where he growls about the temptation to kill those who would harm Bella, or flitting around a forest warning her how dangerous he is, he comes off more like a whimpering puppy than a debonair monster. The good news is, his chemistry with Stewart (particularly in their big kissing scene) is palpable, which, let's face it, is really what matters to Twilight fans most. --Ellen A. Kim

3 out of 5 stars Short and to the point...   January 31, 2010
Sam (Canada)
Not that great of a movie. I am still considering New Moon, although at this point I am just not sure. The acting is terrible, the so called Vampires are questionable at best. Just my opinion. If you can go to the show and see this, I would suggest that first before considering buying the movie.

2 out of 5 stars Alright movie just don't compare it to the book   January 23, 2010
J. Galka (Edmonton, AB)
This movie is alright if you haven't read the book. I didn't find a lot of comparisons to the book and it seemed like even the slightest detail was changed. I found the movie rather dissapointing considering how into the book I was and how fast I read it. There was a lot of awkwardness in the movie and I found some of the scenes didn't fade into the other smoothly. I watched the deleted scenes and then rewatched the movie and I found that some of those scenes shouldn't have been cut out as they smoothed out some of the plots. I liked it better the second time around but still didn't enjoy it as much as I would've liked to. New Moon was done a lot better and I would definatley give that 5 stars but as for Twilight 1-2 stars since it could've been done a lot better then it was.

2 out of 5 stars Wake me when it's over?   December 20, 2009

Hot actors, check. SFX, semi check. Evil Vamps go good cliche plot line, check.
My first mistake was sitting down to watch the movie. My second was actually sitting through the entire thing, constantly hoping it would get better. My third was not demanding a refund.
Twilight was drawn out and just plain boring. Sure, lots of eye candy, if you can get past the teenage emo that resonates throughout the entire thing. The plot was just one cliche after another.
The one or two not exactly thrilling fight scenes were probably the highlight of the movie. Which isn't saying much. The acting was absolutely terrible.
I'm not usually so harsh in my reviews, and generally tend to find at least one good thing to put in. Twilight has left me with no options. It's a snorefest from beginning to end. I can't even say it's worth watching once.
My fourth mistake, as it turns out, was going to see the second movie, New Moon. I wanted to be fair, knowing Twilight was number one in a series, and those can sometimes be tiresome as they have a lot to set up for, characters to establish, plot lines to deliver. My faith was misplaced.
This movie definitely falls into my 'Rent First' category if you are 16 or under. Any older and you might as well save your money for something that won't send you into flashbacks of all the reasons you're so very glad high school is behind you.

5 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised!   October 14, 2009
Buffyvssatan (Montreal, Quebec Canada)
At first, I was skeptical. I didn't want to be a part of the Twilight madness. The horror movie lover in me wanted to avoid this, but curiosity got the best of me.

I was lucky enough to watch the movie with a virgin mind because I started to read the book after seeing the movie. I thought this was a great adaptation. The first half of the movie is the best.

What's really interesting about Twilight is the relationship between Bella and Edward. Leave out the vampire element and this is the kind of mutual attraction most girls would love to experience with a guy. Sadly, that'll never happen! This is why Twilight is so popular. It's a two-hour dream in colour for girls!

The Blu-Ray did not work. Tried it in another machine and it still did not work. Had to go out and rent it from Blockbuster, so there is nothing wrong with my Blu-Ray machine. Just bad luck I happened to buy the faulty disc I guess. I wasted money
