Amazon.ca Terminator Salvation restores some of the balance of huge freakin' explosions and emotionally compelling plot to the Terminator series. Set entirely after the nuclear assault that left the computer system Skynet in control of the world, Terminator Salvation follows John Connor (Christian Bale) as he grapples with both murderous robots and his superiors in the resistance, who aren’t sure they believe the prophecies that Connor is destined to save humanity. Into the midst of this struggle tumbles Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington, who would later star in James Cameron’s Avatar); the last thing he remembers was being executed in prison decades before. Baffled, he falls into company with Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin, Star Trek) and a mute little girl, who soon get captured--but Wright then meets and bonds with Blair Williams (Moon Bloodgood, Eight Below), a resistance fighter who remains loyal to the confused Wright even though Connor suspects he’s not what he seems--or what he believes himself to be. Terminator Salvation isn’t the astonishing synthesis of action and feeling that either The Terminator or T2 were; the plot threads are poorly woven and fray completely in the last third of the movie. Despite this, Terminator Salvation has at least two skillfully orchestrated action sequences that will get your heart racing, and Worthington’s beguiling mixture of toughness and vulnerability gives his relationship with Bloodgood a genuine pulse. It’s imperfect, but compared with the hollow carcasses that most action movies (including Terminator 3) turn out to be, it’s worth seeing. --Bret Fetzer

Terminator Savation : Mostly great movie with a few flaws. January 31, 2010 Daniel Goyette (MONTREAL, QC CANADA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Terminator Salvation is a great movie and the number 4 of this saga started in 1984 , mostly it reach its target but make a few errors in my point of view like two Terminator models are more like The Transformers (Motobot and Hydrobot).
The story is very good and the special effects are simply amazing also the bonus material are not too bad since the Blu-Ray offer menu navigation beyond what simple DVD can do but you should get your Firmware updated for best viewing experience.
If you are a fan of Terminator movies i strongly suggest you get also Terminator 4 : Salvation but you should get also Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles seasons 1 and 2 on Blu-Ray and see another Female Terminator called Cameron.
The Sarrah Connor Chronicles get deep inside the concept of who , why and how Terminators have been created something the movies cant achives even when it get a long duration movie get Terminator : The Sarrah Chronicles are 31 Episodes of 45 minutes each.
Finally to enjoy all of the Terminators movies you must accept to take the time to view them slowly one at a time and if you look around you Skynet the internet network around us is getting the control slowly of all what we use everyday so maybe not to far away from real ....
The Movies in Theaters or TV Series about Terminator cant offer what it is available on Blu-Ray : the bonus materials and total control of viewing experience of course buying is more expensive that rental but if you want to be a movie collector that not too expensive.
Also if you buy it before december 2010 you get a free download of the movie from iTunes on Mac and also there is an option for PC Windows Users , i use Mac so get a legal copy on my iPhone and it take only about 5 minutes to download and weight about 1.4 Gb in size.
Good movie. My beef is with the bluray setup. January 8, 2010 Cyprus (Windsor) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I thought the movie itself was really well done. Far better than T3. They did a great job of doing a prequel/sequel storyline, and the special effects are awesome. I really liked how they balanced CGI effects with real props and puppets, so as not to give a fake, overdone "Stars Wars" prequels feel.
My beef is with the bluray setup itself. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this problem, but both blurays don't bring you to a disc menu where you can access special features until after the movie. At first I thought there was something wrong with the disc itself, so I exchanged it and had the same problem. If making the disc menu unavailable until the end of the movie (and, of coarse, all the annoying commercials and trailers) was intentional, then I have to say it's quite annoying and frustration to users. I hope Warner Brothers doesn't continue this practice with other blurays.
If I'm wrong about this problem, and other people are able to access the main menu at any point, post a message and let me know.
GARBAGE December 30, 2009 C. Parker 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Terminator Salvation
The perpetual raping of the Terminator series continues. If you though T3 was bad along with that garbage of a TV show, then be prepared for them to look like gold compared to this sorry joke.
This movie is riddled with plot contradictions the movie makes and makes with the other films. Riddled with crappy dialog, and the movie looks like a bad rip off of Transformers.
Stay Away.
More Terminators, Less Story December 17, 2009 Sampson Simpson (Canada) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Terminator Salvation was alright. Not great, not bad, somewhere in the middle. I have really mixed feelings about it, some of it I loved and some I hated. Read on.
The negatives:
1. Christian Bale. Guy's a great actor but he was hardly what I imagined the inspiring leader of the resistance to be like. When Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin) hears one of his radio broadcasts and says, "We have to find this guy," I was wondering, "Why? Why would anybody care?" His charisma was somewhat lacking, he always spoke in this gruff tone, and he just wasn't what I imagined John Connor should be.
2. Lack of time travel. To me, a Terminator movie is about the robot coming back to the present day and freaking people out while causing mass mayhem on a street somewhere. While there is plenty of mayhem in Salvation, there's no time travel and the world's already been laid waste anyway. Every film before this had time travel as one of the central themes and now that's been exchanged for the war of the machines.
3. The war. While it was cool to look at, it didn't really fill you with awe. An event so legendary in Terminator mythos should just fill you with awe while it punches you in the face!
4. There was one scene that just bugged me. The Marcus character starts a derelict car and the CD player turns on, and it's "Rooster" by Alice In Chains. "Ain't found a way to kill me yet..." Yeah. OK. That would definitely have happened.
The positives:
1. Anton Yelchin. What a talented kid. He proved it once in Star Trek as Chekov and now he's done it again. Plus he gets the line, "Come with me if you want to live," and he nails it. He resembles Michael Beine enough that you believe "this is Kyle Reese".
2. The Terminators. Lots of 'em. You finally get to see some that were only spoken of before, such as the rubber-skinned infiltrators. All of them have the right look, and I thought the different models were one of the most interesting aspects of the movie.
3. Roland Kickinger/Ahh-nold. First you hear the trademark theme music, and then you see the T-800 model with the face of the young Arnold. This was just brilliantly done, even if the final showdown might be a little too similar to one or two we've seen before. This was the highlight of the whole movie for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Neutral:
1. Sam Worthington. I don't know what's up with the hype on this guy. He's OK. His role was pretty pointless though, the movie could have existed without him. It's not like the entire franchise was hinged on the mysterious appearance of Marcus Wright.
Terminator Salvation was not a complete strike out. It was 50/50. Basically, while it included a lot of the cornerstones required to be the next Terminator sequel (the future war, "come with me if you want to live", a bunch of cool robots) it also lacked the drive, the pace, the music, the emotion and the impact of all three previous films.
So, 3 stars. Not bad, but so far the weakest of the series (which I always felt should have ended with T2).
It was alright December 8, 2009 Kenneth W. Butcher (Canada) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'm a huge fan of Terminator. The first one gave me nightmares when I was a kid, the second was just as good, the third one, well... Salvation really disappointed me at first. I just can't see Bale as Conner, not that he doesn't act it out nicely; he just doesn't work for me personally.
This film had to grow on me because I guess in many ways I had my own thoughts on filling in the blanks from what I knew of the story from the first two films. I guess it's like reading a book and then seeing the film only to find the lead character wasn't how you pictured him to be...
The directors did a good job on refreshing the story. No it doesn't follow the same foot print of the first one, but if you understand physics and space time continuums it can't. In Terminator 2 Arnold, John, Dyson, and momma Conner "stopped" judgment day from happening and changed the future (The future's not set - no fate but what we make for ourselves) and then in the third one we learned that judgment day was never stopped only postponed.
Watching the special features really helps me understand the directors mind and vision for the film. It's easy to judge a film based on your own ideas and say the director did a terrible job, but once you see all the hard work and thought put into it, you just can't judge it so harshly. Once I understood why the director did some of the things he did, this movie was better to watch. They did a good job of filling in the blanks. I enjoyed actually getting to see Terminators from a perspective that the other films have never shown before.
I give it 4 stars out of 5 because on its own (not in comparison to) it's a nice addition to the family of films.
