Hard Drive is not recognized on Windows 7/Vista March 14, 2010 Tim E. (Toronto, ON) I cannot recommend the Iomega Prestige 1TB External Hard Drive. The first one only connected twice out of 10 times to my Dell Latitude (purchased mid-last year, i.e. quite powerful and up-to-date) under Windows 7. After I got it replaced the Hard Drive did not connect at all. I also tried to connect both to a HP laptop (also purchased last year) under Vista. Didn't work either.
Compact, stylin', fast, easy! March 6, 2010 Michael Paitich High-capacity drives have dropped in price so much over the recent years, while their storage space has increased dramatically. So if price per megabyte is no longer a big issue, then size, looks, and ease of use are the main criteria for choosing one drive over another.
The Iomega 1.5TB Prestige Desktop Hard Drive is compact (although a few years from now it'll look ridiculously huge, like the cell phones on "Seinfeld" do). It's sleek and attractive, and dead simple to use.
The other criteria by which this drive could be judged are wirelessness, accessories and documentation. This Iomega is NOT wireless (unlike, for example, Apple's Time Capsule). All the accessories you would need to connect ARE included, as well as a small stand to let you store the unit vertically. The documentation is very brief. Some people may want everything spelled out for them, but for anyone even slightly comfortable with technology, the drive's ease of use makes any more documentation unnecessary. You plug it in, turn it on, format it if you're going to use it with a Mac (well-documented), and go! If you need any more detail, you can visit Iomega's website.
The Iomega 1.5TB Prestige Desktop Hard Drive has performed flawlessly for me, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone (unless wireless connectivity is important to him).
Iomega 1 TB Prestige Desktop Hard Drive January 26, 2010 Amazon Shopper Excellent choice. I was really surprised at the compact size. It was the size of a paper back. Sits securely in it's own stand. Sleek and a nice addition to my desk.
Easy to install and use and came with everything you needed. The inclusion of a 6 month trial of McAfee Anti Virus Plus was great, especially since my subscription was about to expire. The offer with purchase extended it 6 months so a big money saver.
Very reasonable and worth the money!!
Money well spent December 15, 2009 Helen (Canada) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I own this external harddrive for more than a month. For the amount of memory, it is a good price. Very easy to install: Unpack and connect with USB, VOLIA!I I have no problems with it. The appearance of this product looks nice, not bulky at all. No heating problems.
So far so good December 13, 2009 Kevin Lunney (Toronto) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've owned this unit for about a month. As another reviewer wrote, all you need to do is connect the power and plug it into a USB port. A lot of storage for the price. As it's only been a month, I can't really vouch for it's reliability other than to say so far so good. A minor quibble: the manual tells you to always shut down the unit via the "Safely Remove Hardware" prompt in the system tray. Around half the time I try that, I get a notification that the unit is busy and to try again later. This happens even when I haven't accessed the drive for some time. I'm skeptical as to how important this precaution is, though, and have simply been turning my system off when that happens and I have no time to wait.
