the best! March 4, 2010 CherNotTheSinger (Canada) I highly recommend "The List"! Rosanne Cash has the best voice and the songs are well selected and so beautifully done! My favourite is Sea of Heartbreak with Bruce Springsteen elevating the melody to heaven!
Listening to the List January 4, 2010 Pink Car (White Rock BC Canada) This is a wonderful CD for driving because you can crank up the volume and sing along with these songs.
Rosanne Cash handles these pop/country classics beautifully, often changing the tempo to give a new take on the songs. I especially liked "Sea of Heartbreak" which is a duo with Bruce Springsteen and the haunting Dylan song "North Country Fair".
I have played this non-stop since I got it... January 3, 2010 Victoria (Canada) I received this for Christmas and love it! I have had a full house of guests and everyone that heard it loved it! Rather than a country album, I would consider this an album of American classics - her rendition of Motherless Children, Sea of Heartbreak (with Bruce Springsteen), 500 Miles - these are the standouts for me although I think every track is a winner. Highly recommend.

i'm a baby-boomer fast approaching 60 and as such this is the first "country" cd i have purchased.i'm not sure why, although i listened to an interview of this lovely lady & was captivated by her easy charm & effortless grace.with fear of going over the top, rosanne cash will leave you breathless.as explained in the liner notes, this recording was born of a list of 100 essential songs her dad compiled for his daughter.make no mistake.this is not a country album.this is a complilation of music which will surrender you to the scope & depth of the american popular song.do yourself a favour.buy this treasure.take a long drive by yourself.keep the windows rolled up,crank up the volume & listen, listen, listen.
Good, but not great October 17, 2009 Lorie Finkbeiner (Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada) 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I've long been a fan of Rosanne Cash and, as soon as I saw the listing for this album, I ordered it and waited impatiently for the delivery. Just finished listening to it and am somewhat disappointed. This album seems to lack the passion of other Rosanne Cash albums, as though her heart wasn't really in it. None of the songs have the distinctive edge that is so much a part of her songs, and there's too much of the same sound, the same rhythm throughout the album. I'm not sorry to have bought the album, but hope that her next one brings back the Rosanne who puts her heart into it.
