Amazon.com Equal parts iRomeo and Juliet/i and iCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon/i, iShinobi/i offers breathtaking cinematography, appealing actors, and ninjas. What more could a movie fan ask for? Released in 2005, iShinobi/i is set in 17th century Japan, which is dominated by two powerful clans. Oboro is a member of the Iga clan, while her lover Gennosuke is the son of the leader of the Koga clan. Both groups are comprised of expert ninjas who have developed skills unknown to most mortals. When Oboro and Gennosuke meet, they are unaware that by their birthrights, they are meant to hate--not love--each other. When the nefarious Shogun--eager to increase his own power by doing away with both clans--announces that each faction will send in five ninjas to fight to the death, Oboro and Gennosuke are sent in to battle against each other for the honor of their clans. Filled with action (including some computer-generated images to enhance the actors' warrior-like qualities) and romance, iShinobi/i has the makings of a sweeping epic. Though based on an anime series, the film succeeds as a stand-alone piece of work. Beautifully filmed and well-acted, the film is exciting and heartbreaking, and the viewer senses both hope and doom all the way through the finale. i--Jae-Ha Kim/i

Action Blu-ray Movie January 5, 2009 Philip Lester Lim (Honolulu, HI) Made my purchase in 2008 prior to the release date and item was shipped with the usual excellent Amazon efficiency. If you like watching an action packed movie with tons of well directed fight scenes in superb Blu-ray High Definition, this one I strongly suggest. The story line is decent and although nothing unique, the ultra clear graphics and resolution make watching via your Blu-ray player and HDTV a pleasure to stay home. Audio quality is excellent with the full range of highs and lows being reproduced accurately by my Bose 5.1 system. Watching in my own home envirionment with near like theater type performance makes this movie a worthwhile addition to any Blu-ray collection. This is a film you will not expect to view from any TV provider in the near future as this is a foreign (Japanese) film. A perfect conversation piece for house guests.
The movie was great but could of been better January 3, 2009 Senna I was slightly disappointed with the movie. It didn't flesh out the characters as well as I hoped and left something missing. But then I read the books so I'm biased xD Other than that I think they did an excellent job on who played the characters and the graphics were awesome. The story held together which a lot of movies fail at when its based off of a book and the general idea to the story remains the same. Its a movie worth watching, I just wish it did more with characters :3
SHINOBI December 29, 2008 Movie Lover 999 (Somewhere on Earth) This is one of the best Japanese Ninja-like fighting movies that I had watched. Cheers
okay movie December 20, 2008 R. Alvarez (Germany) This movie had really good special effects, but lacked a good plot. It is somewhat of a let down especially at the end.

Entertaining. Follow's the Romeo and Juliet saga very closely but is somewhat more introspective. The heroine actually doubts the truth of her own humanity, extremely conflicted by what she thought was her destiny to be a warrior princess and her love for the prince of her enemy. It took the conviction and sacrifice of the hero to convice her that her tradition of violence had a hollow ring. So he's dead, she mourns her loss, and finds she needs to sacrifice herself for the safety of the two villages, the only thing of value left to her. Sounds sad doesn't it? Well heck, so is RJ. br / br /The caliber of the performances was good, not great, and the special 'talents' of the Shinobi were inventive. All in all I found it entertaining and sufficiently redeeming.
