Amazon.com Move over, Vin Diesel, because The Transporter, Hong Kong action veteran Corey Yuen's English-language directorial debut, is revving up to steal your thunder. As the other top-billed action star to emerge in 2002, British hunk Jason Statham--previously seen in Snatch, Ghosts of Mars, and The One--plays a hard-driving courier for well-heeled underworld clients. He follows simple rules: (1) Stick to the deal; (2) Don't ask names; and (3) Don't look in the packages he transports. All's well until he violates rule 3, discovering a Chinese beauty (Qi Shu) in the trunk of his tricked-out BMW, and foiling a deadly plot to smuggle Chinese slaves through the port of Marseilles. The first hour is ass-kickin' fun, and the stuntwork is impressive throughout, even as the plot degenerates into a predictable series of bone-breaking showdowns. Statham boasts an appealing combination of brains and brawn, suggesting the suave versatility of a promising career. Coproduced by action auteur Luc Besson and filmed on dazzling French locations, The Transporter is an action fan's delight. --Jeff Shannon

THE TRANSPORTER October 13, 2008 GINNY (SOUTHERN INDIANA) this dvd has JASON STATHAM enough said and the movie is pretty good too
Should you buy the Blu-ray version... or pass? September 11, 2008 Deadhouseplants (Tualatin, Oregon, United States) (Note: This review is to assist Amazon customers in the choice of purchasing this title for Blu-ray. As Blu-ray owners, we all know not all discs were created equal. I am here to simply point out the differences and/or improvements made between the Blu-ray title and the standard DVD title. No one wants to pay an extra $20 to $45 for just a format.) Plot Since this title was previously released on DVD, I will spare you what you can already find on a common movie trailer site... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0293662/trailers Video The movie has an aspect ratio of 2.35:1, so in other words, depending on your gear, you're going to see black bars on both the top and bottom of the screen. The video quality claims to be 1080p, but doesn't really seem like it at times. The initial chase scene, (Chapter 3) appears crisp with no artifacts or film grain. However, Chapter 11 shows film grain mostly at times. You can see the difference in Frank's face between the two chapters. All in all, the video quality is about as good if not better than a good upscaling DVD. Audio The audio format is DTS-HD, which luckily my Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH Home Theater Receiver was able to decipher. Transporter is one of those films that should be used as a reference disc for young urban home theater buffs. It has the right mixture of quick thumping music, crisp dialogue, and action special effects. The music comes in perfectly, and hard hitting. The soundtrack to the chase scene of Chapter 3 is a reference point for this, as well as the end of Chapter 8 when the start of Musik by Knoc'Turnal's hits. The action is best references from the end of Chapter 10, all through Chapter 11's excellent fight scene. This is where channel separation comes through. People who have never heard 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 sound will be amazed to hear bullets and glass shattering through one speaker only to set a surrounding audio feel. The audio provided by this movie is of high quality, and as I said, should be noted as a reference. Special Features This is why I write these reviews. You have a great movie, with great sound, but lacks that extra something to make it a keeper. Studios need to realize that special features is the difference between a consumer owning a disc and renting a disc from Netflix. Transporter is what I call bare bones on special features. Meaning all you're getting is a commentary and trailers. Here's something you should note, Transporter 3 is coming out to theaters soon. So you can assume that when Transporter 3 comes out on Blu-Ray, the studio might double-dip, and re-release this title with more features, and better quality. Final Verdict Because of the bare bones factor of this disc, and the subsequent release of a special features title in the future to coincide with a sequel. The best I can rate this Blu-Ray title is a rent. If you already have this title as a standard DVD, hold onto it. The upgrade is not worth it. If you do want to splurge, just rent it to fill your fix, because there is nothing else on this disc, other than the superb audio to warner keeping it.
Statham makes the movie August 21, 2008 Moonlight Graham (Chicago, Illinois United States) The Transporter began a series of over-the-top action movies starring Jason Statham. If you are like me, this has been a positive development. While I feel that Statham is a fine actor who could do more serious work (and did in The Bank Job), he is able to elevate these implausible action movies to a level they may not deserve. The Transporter is a straightforward action movie and features some creative fights. The Blu-Ray is a mixed bag. The transfer isn't bad and it sounded great on my system, but there are little extras. There is a commentary featuring Statham - I haven't listened to that yet, but will probably give it a shot. Other than that, the only special features are trailers. Given that they are coming out with a third Transporter, it may be worth holding off on these films as I would guess a double-dip is on the way.
Great movie on UMD! July 19, 2008 Gauntletwielder (MIAMI, FL United States) Not much to say here. It is a great movie on UMD for the PSP. I am gradually buying as many good movies on UMD as I can. If you own a PSP and look for great movies on UMD, you know they are rare. (There is a LOT of crap available on UMD though. That might explain why I always see large quantities of Ali G and Viva La Bam on UMD.) I have about 40 movies on UMD so far. This is one of them. I bought my PSP to watch movies, play The Simpsons game, and play Tomb Raider. That's it. I love my PSP.
Rules are made to be broken March 31, 2008 Gunner (Bethlehem,Georgia) 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
Transporter DVD Transporter is a high action movies involving an ex-Special forces soldier who earns his living transporting "packages" for various clients, mostly shady. In this movie, the transporter ( Jason Stratham )violates his own rules ( he's real big on rules ) and looks inside the package, doesn't like what he sees and doesn't complete the delivery. Bad idea, now the client is after him, along with the police. The movie is set in the French countryside so if you don't enjoy the thrill-a-minute action, just enjoy the view. Highly recommended for fans of Jason Stratham , James Bond movies, and high action movies, especially car chases. Gunner March, 2008
