Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Somegirl's third album continues to build on the band's established sound, blending smooth, sensual vocals with electronic soundscapes that span the spectrum, from lush, drifting ballads, to uptempo dance-club hits. Included with the dozen original new songs on THE VELVET HOUR are three memorable cover versions of hits from Duran Duran and ABBA, and the old-time classic "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps". This is an album that is as smooth as the title suggests-- pop songs that brush past the listener like velvet.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Totally worth checking out.   July 30, 2008
I've only listened to a few tracks on this album.

I think that "Ive Loved" is my favorite track. Very talented vocalist and excellent lyrics.

This album definitely has it's own unique vibe to it, though new to me, I think it's pretty impressive.

Totally worth checking out.

Drawn to a preview listen by a cover (mystifyingly, track #1?) of a Duran Duran Song best used when breaking up, I'm mystified by how passionless this remake is.

I suppose this is some sort of almost 8-bit style, lo-fi, spare, mellow-kinda-music that I can't grok somehow. Her voice is nice, really it is... but it begs to get taken out on the road and revved up. I want to hear her howl, or growl, or even moan a bit... instead, we coast on a skateboard to the park for an ice cream. And a long watch of dogs catching frisbees. Then we nap some. Maybe.

Not my cup of tea, but maybe I will come back if they start to fill out the soundscape with... anything more than nothing. The voice has a lot of promise... everything else is a mostly a plinky, awkwardly sound sampled, post disco snoozer.
