Amazon.com Like the movie itself, the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack is filled with emotional twists; from the hardness of Garbage's "#1 Crush" and the Butthole Surfers' "Whatever" to Stina Nordenstam's endearing, whispery "Little Star" the journey is all over the map. Within the CD-enhanced grooves, however, moments of absolute brilliance flow; Des'ree's "Kissing You (Love Theme from Romeo + Juliet)" is perhaps her strongest work to date, while Radiohead's "Talk Show Host" is a track that the group treasures and performs live often. Those two tracks alone make this soundtrack worth the purchase price. --Denise Sheppard

R+J's Alternative Makeover! July 15, 2008 Baz Lurhmann's vision for his take on one of the most famous tragedies in modern American Literature was lauded for it's fast, slick, music-video style pace. The soundtrack (Vol. 1), however, completed its makeover into the alternative universe, as it was a consistently solid, beautifully crafted compilation of songs that gave new meaning to this tale of star-crossed, ill-fated lovers. Garbage's brooding tale of obsessive devotion ("#1 Crush") and The Cardigans' irresistible ditty, "LoveFool", are the album's signature hits. Des'ree's utterly gorgeous "Kissing You" and RadioHead's screechy, amped-up "Talk Show Host" are great highlights, as is "Young Hearts Run Free" from Kym Mazelle and Gavin Friday's "Angel". Everclear, The WannaDies, & Stina Nordenstam round out the soundtrack, but the true standout track for me has to be Mundy's terrific, acoustic-guitar rocker "To You I Bestow" (which is actually featured in the movie's trailer). Simply put, this soundtrack was one of the 90's finest records, ranks as one the best soundtracks EVER, and is a must-own for any true CD collector. As I told my buddy's girl (who loves this film), it's one I still play with to this day, 12 years after its release. -DEM-
You love her like the stars above August 16, 2007 It's rare to find a soundtrack that makes every track count. This compilation does, and in doing so it covers the range of emotions from the film, in a variety of different sounds. The collection of artists on this soundtrack is fantastic and that is completely reflected through the high quality it contains. I would have liked for the soundtrack to be more inclusive of songs from the film, but as it stands it's a great listen.
great movie, great soundtrack June 15, 2007 I wish they would have included everything from the movie, but this is pretty good.
quintessential movie soundtrack for the 90's May 25, 2007 If I were asked to choose just ONE movie soundtrack that embraced mainstream teen pop culture of the 1990's, this would be it. If anything, I think it is even better now than it was then. The tracks fit together beautifully.
My 4th copy. May 12, 2007 Since this CD was released, I have loved and lost this CD for appx. 3 times. Every time I would lend it out I would never get it back. It's probably one of the best soundtracks ever. Now that I have it, again, it's not leaving my hands.
