 These Extended Songs Still Sound Super! December 25, 2008

This double-disc "live" CD has gotten a lot of play of my CD/DVD disc players over the years. Much of this represents some of the best materal of Mark Knopfler and the gang. It's hard to believe this came out almost 25 years ago. Knopfler even had a full head of hair back then! (My DVD came out in 1984, which is when it was first released. The concert was held in July of 1983.)). br / br /If you like long songs, this is the ticket for you and almost everything on it lasts awhile. These are not 2-4-minute songs. br / br /For uptempo, there is the group's famous "Sultans Of Swing," along with "Two Young Lovers," featuring a great sax solo by Mel Collins. The rest is middle of the road to ballad material. All of them feature Knopfler's fabulous guitar work. I've never been a big fan of his vocals but his guitar sounds are so good, so uniquely his, that they have made me a fan of his and his group to this day. br / br /Many times, rock groups sound pretty poor "live," compared to their polished studio work....but not Knopfler and Dire Straits. In fact, they sound better when they're live.

This concert I have loved for so long. It is incredible. The extended versions of the songs are AWESOME, especially the new part in Sultans. Mark Knopfler is GOD. br / br / WHEN ARE THEY - IF EVER - GOING TO RELEASE THIS ON DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????

I purchased this CD to replace an old taped copy I owned - was a bargain price, though I was a bit worried when I received a package from South America... But it's a quality recording non American version of the CD - the music is still fantastic all these years later. It is one of the best live albums around, and if you only can own one Dire Straits CD, this is it (though it is a 2 disc set!). The vesrions on here are better than the originals, especially "Romeo and Juliet" and "Sultans of Swing".
