It's a funny thing with Rockabye Baby's ILullaby Renditions of Metallica/i--the disc is both all about the music and it's not. Consider it: on the one hand, here is a righteous, fully recognizable assortment of vintage Metallica tunes, including "Master of Puppets," "Enter Sandman," and "Nothing Else Matters." On the other, what's to stop a suburban massage parlor from passing it off as another generic, therapeutically new-age soundtrack to release tension by? Not a lot. The point being that this is a strangely versatile disc, but one no Metallica-loving new parent should be without. Starting, appropriately enough, at "One," producer and performer Michael Armstrong reduces Kirk Hammett's once rib-crushing riffs to xylophone and toy piano; "Fade to Black" becomes powder-puff pink, "(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth" becomes more like "(Band-Aid) Kissing a Boo-Boo." Somewhat miraculously, what once was suitable listening for leather-wearers only becomes music to fasten Pampers by. Enjoyably. Upping the gift-appeal factor is IMetallica's/I inarguably cool liner notes: scissors, string, tape, and a hole punch turns them into a heavy-metal mobile to hang over baby's bed. I--Tammy La Gorce/i

Album Description
Rockabye Baby! transforms timeless rock songs into beautiful instrumental lullabies. The soothing sounds of the glockenspiel, vibraphone, melltoron and other instruments will lull your baby into a sweet slumber. POn this album, they'll enjoy bMetallica/b's biggest anthems without the pesky earplugs you didn't bother to wear growing up. We've turned down the volume from an eleven to a two, and made the bed ourselves. Say your prayers little one. Tonight the sandman will be gently rocking you to sleep with these essential masterpieces of rock `n' roll.

5 out of 5 stars Rockin' Out, Baby Style   October 18, 2008

This series of CDs is absolutely wonderful. I've had a number of baby showers to go to recently, and I always give a couple of these because, as gifts, they are different. They are a consistent hit! I know new moms need lots of diapers and onsies, but something like this, suited to the parents' musical tastes is always appreciated. And I even have a couple that I like to listen to (and I have no kids). They are wonderfully done and soothing, and you'll never get tired of hearing the same "old school" lullaby tunes!

5 out of 5 stars Satisfies my husband and my baby!   October 9, 2008

I love this CD! It has nice soothing music for my baby, but it does not drive my husband nuts like a lot of the children's CDs do. If you are a fan of the SM (Symphony and Metallica) the songs kind of have that sort of feel, but not quite that beautiful.

"Rockabye Baby!" doesn't promise the usual nursery fare when it has kid-friendly covers for the music of Tool, Radiohead, and Nirvana. Now,they've taken on Metallica. br / br /The "lullaby renditions of Metallica" turn the rock anthems of Lars Ulrichco into eerie glockenspiel versions. The songs are greatly slowed down... and no lyrics either. "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" and "Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)" get pulled from their original context. "Master of Puppets" still sounds creepy, and "Enter Sandman" isn't exactly naptime fare. br / br /Lars Ulrich sued Napster when they took his music. He should be suing this company for turning his music into lullabies.

My mother in law bought us some veggie tales CD for my newborn son and it was horrible, so I bought the Led Zepplin version and Metallica Rockabye CD's and both are excellent. I was at first worried that my kid would have nightmares when hearing the metallica CD but he was out within 30 seconds of turning it on and slept through the night. A great find and I look forward to more releases.
