Amazon.com Guitarist John Williams (no, not John Williams the soundtrack composer) adds to his fine catalog of impeccable recordings with iClassic Williams: Romance of the Guitar/i. But this isn't just a best-of collection (though some of his greatest work is included here) since the disc contains three new recordings. Among the new tracks, Faure's iPavane/i is a real stunner, a short but gorgeous piece originally meant for orchestra and choir, where Williams's guitar sounds as though it always belonged there. We get Williams at his most interpretative--his arrangements of Satie's iGymnopedie No. 3/i and Piazzolla tango iVerano porteno/i--and his most serene (the "Cavatina" theme from the movie iDeer Hunter/i). Let's face it, some fine classical guitarists can lull their listeners into near comatose states with their instrument; Williams, on the other hand, is just the opposite. His gorgeous tone, inventive arrangements, and interesting repertoire continue to make the classical guitar sound exciting. In short, a great introduction to Williams and a real gem for lovers of classical guitar. i--Jason Verlinde/i

FOR ALL JOHN WILLIAMS FANS - A CD WELL WORTH BUYING June 1, 2008 A. P. Shipp (England) Having listened to this CD I though it was outstanding. As a John William fan myself, I always find his technique absulutely brilliant and some of the tracks on there I haven't heard before, which is a bonus. I have quite a few CD's of him playing solo and together with Julian Bream. Also the group Sky he was with back in the early 1980's. This CD I have to say has got to be the best one yet in my collection of John Williams CD's. br / br /I would recommend this CD to all John Williams fans. All so, this CD is genuine and is not a copy from the real thing, which is nice to know. So at least you know what you are buying is worth it's value for money. br / br /It's a good CD for background soft music to enhance the atmosphere of the evening of romance. br / br /For any beginners who are learning to play the classical guitar, I would recommend that you purchase a copy of this and listen to world's greatest classical guitar player at work. That is my opinion anyway. br / br /Andrew Shipp
Evening by the fire December 26, 2007 J. D. Schad (Cleveland, OH USA) Nice collection of classics for the guitar that was easy to listen to. No surprises and no disappointments.
The Aranjuez Adagio is Perfection March 1, 2007 Mr. Raymond Ovanessian (Westlake Village, Ca United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The second movement adagio of the Aranjuez concert is one of my favourite pieces, a very difficult one to get right. I've listened to well over a dozen variations, the one on this CD, track 19, is an absolute gem. Just by itself is reason enough to own this CD. The only other Aranjuez performance that's even worth mentioning in the same breath is Julian Bream's, track 2 of the CD titled just "Julian Bream", with the Monteverdi orchestra. Both are just stunning performances, as close to perfection as it gets. Julian's is a bit stronger on the guitar than the one here.
