Just a one-disc sampling of Bacharach's definitive three-CD box IThe Look of Love/I, this collection nonetheless captures some of the most essential of his writing collaborations with lyricist Hal David. Among them are a half-dozen of the greatest singles the two conjured for Dionne Warwick in the '60s; from the sorrowful "Anyone Who Had a Heart" to the bittersweet "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" and the savvy "I'll Never Fall in Love Again," they're among the best examples of postwar pop. The A-1 quality only flags on the final three lugubrious tracks. IThe Very Best/I is a mostly appealing selection, but it's hard not to feel that the title should instead appear on a full platter of Warwick classics. I--Rickey Wright/I

4 out of 5 stars Good old songs from Burt Bacharach   August 18, 2008
S. Y. Chin (Australia)
My children wonders why I bought songs which I can find in TV commercials. I told them that it is because these songs are so good that advertising companies cannot help "borrow" the songs.

5 out of 5 stars 60,s sound and writing at its best   April 24, 2008
T. Amerson (Independence MO)
Bert Bacharach is a song writers idol. he is best known during the mid to late 60's with songs like... " The look of love" ,proformed by Dusty Springfield. So many hits on this one album... I loved it !

4 out of 5 stars Stepping Back to the Mid-60s   March 26, 2008
Hoosier Hipster (Indiana, USA)
Anyone who misses or never experienced the hipster side of the mid-60s should get a hold of this CD. There are lots of Bacharach favorites here featuring the original singers and recaordings. All that's missing are the martini and the go-go girls dancing in the cages. Oh, behave!

5 out of 5 stars Only one Burt Bacharach   January 10, 2007
Fredrick R. Alloway (Scottsdale, AZ.)
Wonderful CD,every song is good, most are very good, included are great artists he worked with over the years that add to the enjoyment of this music. I would recommend it to anyone who especially enjoys the music of the 60s and 70s. br /

5 out of 5 stars "Best"? --- Yes!!   August 17, 2006
Carlotta Vega Van Buren
What a wonderful collection from one of America's true originals.. Mr. Burt Bacharach. Often imitated, but never duplicated, Mr. Bacharach's work shines as much today as when it first came out. My favorite selection is the simple and heart-breaking "Anyone Who Had A Heart" performed by the amazing Dionne Warwick. No other song can communicate heartbreak and yearning like this gem. I agree with another reviewer that a song by The Carpenters would have been nice on this collection...but no matter. These songs still stand as classics. Enjoy!
