 "Soupy music?" December 1, 2008

Years ago, I had a friend in New York. I was a youngster and he was an experienced 50yo guy (he never confessed this, but I once peeked at his passport.) Bill Johnston was a classic character: extremely poor, but sophisticated -- his only friends were the Very Rich. br / br /So what does Bill Johnston have to do with this review? He finally installed a sound system in his fourth-floor walkup, and tuned it to "Easy Listening." And he apologized, constantly, for his "soupy music." br / br /After all, our musical tastes define us as human beings. br / br /Or do they? br / br /I am a big fan of Mozart and Dvorak, but when I moved to Thailand I encountered the music of an extremely talented Thai pianist, who goes by the name of Tor+. And Tor+ explicitly states that he wants to make lovely music to relax people. br / br /For me, that means: not like Brahms and Beethoven, who are always whipping their audiences up into artificial emotional storms. br / br /So: enter Richard Clayderman, and his feel-good elevator music. br / br /He's a lot better than Liberace! br / br /And, somehow, when my Christmas party comes around, and all of my Shan, Karen, Akha, and Thai friends are outside on the front patio grilling steaks and crab (and drinking Heineken, I would guess) I think this music might go down very well. We could even get all sloppy and sentimental and confess that we love each other a lot! :-) br / br /So, at least two cheers for "soupy music!"

I've owned and listened to many cd albums from other piano artists, but Richard Clayderman is the best of the best... These set of CD's speak for themselves. His music is very smooth and soothing for your ears. It relaxes me after an exhausted day at work.
