This fine effort from Herb Alpert (who's actually Jewish, as the booklet describes) Has many of his biggest hits; including Zorba The Greek [you can just picture Alan Bates and Anthony Quinn, can you?] brings to mind bullfights, and fiestas. Along with his other cds, South Of The Border, Whipped Creme And Other Delights, and The Lonely Bull, they provide a sound often imitated, but never duplicated. Great.

I am repeating this story you are about to read as it gives an explanation of why I love this music so much! "Going Places" has many songs on it used on the ride you are about to read about. It is my favorite Herb albums and contains my personal favorite "More and More Amor". That being said....Please read on.....I have fond memories of the music of Herb Alpert! I was introduced to him at an early age as my parents were fans of his records. I didn't hear much of him again until I was coming of age in Wildwood N.J. at the age of 15 when I used to party under the boardwalk with my friends and our girlfriends underneath Hunt's Pier's "El Scrambler" ride. The ride played Herb Alpert tunes non stop! I guess you could say I became a "Man" underneath that pier with my first love listening to the Tijuana Brass. Later in life in my 30's I was taking a break from playing in a band in the local bars,I became a DJ and I would mix Herb Alpert in my mixes and buy shots of Tequila for my fans! To this day when I play these songs at parties we all look for the Tequila bottle! This is a one of a kind sound and if I were stranded on a desert island with only a few albums, Herb Alpert the Tijuana Brass would be included in that collection! This is one of his best albums. I no longer own the original records so, I can not say if the new cd's are true to the originals. They sound fantastic to my ear! Herb Alpert The Tijuana Brass put out yet another great album when they released Going Places. This album contains 12 tracks full of pep and vitality that'll make you want to jump up and dance and then beg for more! br / br /The CD starts off with "Tijuana Taxi." This familiar theme features the horns and percussion doing a great job of carrying the bulk of the musical arrangement. The peppy feel of "Tijuana Taxi" sets the tone for a very enjoyable album with lots more to come. br / br /The next track, "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," is a cover of the instrumental classic number originally performed by Tommy Dorsey His Orchestra. The guitars, percussion, drums and horns featured in this number reflect an excellent arrangement. br / br /"Spanish Flea" justly earned its popularity because of its relentless happy arrangement that also had a romantic feel to it. No wonder this was the Bachelor's Theme on The Dating Game! The horns on "Spanish Flea" pop out at you and you will enjoy this number. In addition, "Walk, Don't Run" has a certain '60s rock and roll flavor to it that is mixed together with the signature sound of The Tijuana Brass. This produces a great effect and "Walk, Don't Run" has a certain punch to it that I rarely hear these days. br / br /"And The Angels Sing" shows Herb Alpert The Tijuana Brass doing another cover of this great song by Mercer and Elman. Awesome! br / br /The CD ends on a celebratory note with the theme from Zorba The Greek. The arrangement and tempo hold your attention very well; and this number ends the CD on an especially strong note. br / br /The liner notes have great art work and Herb Alpert himself contributes an essay about him and The Tijuana Brass. The quality of the sound is excellent, too. br / br /I highly recommend this for fans of Herb Alpert The Tijuana Brass; and people who enjoy easy listening music will also enjoy this CD. br /
