Historic ballroom: listen, learn, and dance! April 16, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a wonderful addition to your ballroom library. These recordings were made between 1931-1962. Many on the first two discs remind me of old Hollywood movie soundtracks. DJs and dancehosts / hostesses should introduce this as "historic ballroom" and perhaps give the year of the recording. The foxtrots are faster than we typically dance today, and yet they are not quite as fast as our quickstep. I wouldn't play a lot of this at blacktie dance parties, but some might be fun!
The third disc is another story. Wow! This stuff sizzles! The recording engineers achieved some amazing stereo seperation and the tracks are mostly clean. Why haven't we heard more of Jack Hansen and his Orchestra?
There are several peculiarities with the recordings and remastering, and these are detailed in the following track listings. Here is the title - orchestra (year), duration, suggested dance (if not obvious from title), and miscellaneous comments for all 43 tracks.
Disc: 1 1. Mambo Loco - Ace Morales and his Latineers (1959), 3:38. 2. Cha Cha Cha - Ace Morales and his Latineers (1959), 2:11. Tune for "Somewhere over the rainbow."
