Product Description From the guy who brought you Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin comes SUPERBAD. Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) want nothing more than to lose their virginity before they head off to college. To do that though they need to get liquor for the big party that night. With the help of their friend Fogell a.k.a. McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) and his fake I.D. the three of them go on a hilarious chase for that elusive booze dodging incompetent cops (Knocked Up's Seth Rogen and "Saturday Night Live's" Bill Hader) angry neighbors and jealous boyfriends. Hailed as an "iconic comedy...a true classic of its times" (Pete Hammond Maxim) SUPERBAD is a laugh-out-loud masterpiece!"System Requirements:Run Time: 119 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY/SCHOOL DAYS UPC: 043396238176 Manufacturer No: 23817
Amazon.com Striking a balance between raunch and sweetness is a tall order for any film, but the Judd Apatow-produced Superbad manages to serve up both in equal and satisfying portions without undercutting a consistent stream of laugh-out-loud performances and gags. Michael Cera (the sublime George Michael Bluth from Arrested Development) and unstoppable scene-stealer Jonah Hill (Apatow's Knocked Up) are lifelong pals who attempt to make up for years of obscurity by getting into one blowout party before parting ways for college; an opportunity presents itself in the form of Hill's crush, the lovely Jules (Emma Stone), who wants the boys to bring liquor to her shindig. What follows is a combination road adventure and coming of age story as Cera and Hill tackle crazed partygoers, a pair of overeager cops (played by co-scripter and producer Seth Rogen and Saturday Night Live 's Bill Hader), and the hard truth about girls and their own emotional bond. The humor is crass and occasionally gross but never mean-spirited, and Cera and Hill offer believable performances as guys wholly unaware of their own potential, yet ready to risk humiliation in order to find out. They're well supported by a cast of Apatow regulars, including Kevin Corrigan, Martin Starr, David Krumholtz, and Carla Gallo (and Stone and Martha MacIsaac are terrific as their love interests), but the film is completely shoplifted by newcomer Christopher Mintz-Plasse as their uber-nerdy pal Fogell, whose fake ID handle is among the movie's funniest gags. Classic funk fans should also keep an ear out for the score by Lyle Workman, which features such James Brown and P-Funk veterans as Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, and Clyde Stubblefield. --Paul Gaita

The Best Troglodyte Film I've Ever Seen October 12, 2008 M. JEFFREY MCMAHON (Torrance, CA USA) A troglodyte film can be defined as an adolescent parody in which the principals are obsessed with raunchiness, gross-out humor, sexual stereotypes, and libidinous frustration. Given the limitations and triteness of this film genre, made infamous by Porkies and other such trog films, I came into Superbad expecting to be annoyed. However, this is actually the strongest trog film I've ever seen for several reasons and I dare say a comic masterpiece. One, the disparity between the nerdy juveniles and their aspiration to be hip, "down" dudes is a source of constant hilarious tension. Two, there is a deep heart behind all this film's ribald humor: This film is really about mending a friendship between two high school guys who, growing up together, will part after graduation, one going to a top-tier college, the other going to a more modest state college. Their adventures, which take on a mythic fable-like quality of the film After Hours, are suffused with hilarious dialogue and like I said a great heart that makes this film a great examination of high school angst. Highly recommended.
Strike 2 October 11, 2008 Christine Tuck So I ordered the Superbad DVD and put it in to watch it and it did not work. The company didnt respond when I ask them about. After I wrote a bad review did I get any response and I was pleased to see that they were sending me another dvd. Unfortunatly they sent me another DVD that did not work. I know it is not my player because it plays other dvd's fine and one of the Superbads I got was a dual disc and the bonus feature dvd played. This company must not check their dvds before they send them out even though they mark them as "like new" because every new dvd i have had PLAYED THE MOVIE! Very unhappy, I do not recommend buying from this company. I understand a slip up, but twice in a row, something must be wrong. Dont waste your money like i did.
I love you people October 6, 2008 C. Ledbetter (SanLorenzo, CA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Everyone thinks they are so insanely clever with their cliche, pun-filled 1 star reviews. A few of most cunning are, "Yes it is Superbad, Superbad movie", "Super bad, unless you're a teenage boy", "Super-Vulgar and Boring", "The movie lives up to it's title!", "Lives down to its title, in a Superbad way!", "super-unwatchable", "This Movie is SO Vile, Studios originally thought of titling it "Supers*itty," "Supersuckage," and even "Superliberalism!!!!!!!". Seriously? Anyways, this movie is not meant to be an exact representation of the male teens current state. Most true comedy is overly exaggerated to extreme degrees. Anyone who cannot understand this basic fundamental of comedy shouldn't watch it.
The Sad State of the American Teen Comedy October 5, 2008 The JuRK (Our Vast, Cultural Desert) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This isn't the worst comedy I've ever seen. That would still be TOMCATS. And for all of you morons who thought SUPERBAD was a really funny movie...there's another classic for you to check out. I'm sure you'll be thoroughly entertained. Wow, this was bad. Unlikable and undefined characters. Endless meandering in place of story. If watching the actual movie isn't embarrassing enough for you, check out the "table reading" extra where the actors do a read-thru of the script. Ugh. Just painful. I'm absolutely sure that the actors had more fun reading that script than any paying person in the theatre (at least they were getting paid to go with it). The cop characters? Not only do these characters not exist in any form of reality, they don't even exist in any movie scenario. There isn't one believable moment with them. And they're not even funny. They make the POLICE ACADEMY flunkies look like Shakespeare. The language is consistently crude without any shred of credibility. By that I mean: everyone sounds the same. Everyone uses vulgarities. It's like one idiot stoner recorded himself and then someone else transcribed it as each character. What's surprising is that Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg had been working on the "script" for years and years. Listening to producer Judd Apatow and director Greg Mottola discuss the movie in The Making Of featurette as if they were making a good comedy is almost funnier than anything in the movie itself. Wait, it IS funnier than anything in the movie. Man, this is horrible.
