This is a great workout tape for moderate or advanced users. I think it is too difficult for the beginner, not because the steps are too complex because they are not, but I have been doing step routines for many years and I am having difficulty completing the entire routine without taking breaks. The intensity can be varied by height of the step or not using the step during certain portions. The idea of interspersing sprints with lower intensity periods was new to me, but I like it a lot better than just one short warmup followed by a never-ending high intensity workout.
