Already had the Good Girl Gone Bad album so I bought this on mp3 so I wouldn't have to buy the re-release.

2 out of 5 stars Rihanna justifies her love because she's a Material Girl   June 23, 2008

Rihanna's "Take a Bow" is a musical disappointment. It deserves curtains. With the title "Take a Bow",one wonders if Rihanna is now covering Madonna's '80s classic. Fortunately (or unfortunately?),she isn't. It's a rather quiet R&B ballad in which she's telling a faithless boyfriend that it's time to go. Lyrically, it's strong. Rihanna puts heartbreak into poetic words. On the other hand, the music is generic R&B,and her singing style bland.

Rihanna has enjoyed great success in covering hits (sampling Tainted Love in the guilty pleasure "SOS" and quoting Manu Dibango's "Soul Makossa" in "Don't stop the music"),but she loses her way with original material-such as "Shut up and drive." Maybe Rihanna should do cover albums, and perhaps sing Madonna's "Take a bow." Rihanna has a sense of fun&a good voice... all she needs is a decent song(!)

5 out of 5 stars A Round of Applause. . .   June 3, 2008
Everyone is comparing this track to Ne-Yo's written song from Beyonce ("Irreplaceable") and it has the beats of Chris Brown's ("With You"). It's a very formulaic song. (If that's a word). But, it's catchy and it talks about a woman who's tired of hearing the same thing over and over again from her cheating mate. The concept is a repetitive one and done to death, but the song does deliver as this is a very well written and produced track and Rihanna carries the song quite well which makes it an anthem for any woman who is tired of the man in their life being a cheater and a player.

5 out of 5 stars Trance-like and Beautiful   May 14, 2008

Take a bow Rihanna! This song is beautiful, so I must disagree with the previous reviews. With Neyo writing both this song and "Irreplaceable" I can see similarities, such as the rude but funny "goodbye, my less than faithful boyfriend" salutes in both songs. The vibe is melodical, as is Rihanna's voice, and is absolutely unique and flowing. It is such a simple song, easy to find yourself singing along to the first time you hear it, yet at the same time it's gripping. If you're already a Rihanna fan, you won't be disappointed.
