Lots of fun for fans of '80's tv March 5, 2008 Sens Fan (Ottawa ON Canada) I loved this show when it was on in the 80's it was fun to watch it as an adult now. This set is for fans of 80's t.v. only it was great to have the whole series released. Missed some extras though -- ie: interviews from cast members today would have been fun but it was a good set. Enjoy the break from reality tv.
Riptide: The Third and Final Season February 18, 2008 D. K. Gholson (Prospect, OH USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Fast and furious on the heels of Season Two's release [October, '07] VEI announced the decision to come out with Season Three -- the final for 'Riptide'. First off, a *MASSIVE* "thank you!" to VEI!! 'Riptide' fans have been dreaming, wishing and hoping for the show to come out on DVD for years. It has, thanks to you, and we *really* appreciate you bringing the Boys to us in startling clarity and sound! br / br /It's a pity that for the release onto dvd you lose key things -- the accompanying music to the show being the main one [and the reason for only four stars]. VEI's been consistent in that manner and there's no change for the third and final season. Fans lose what quite possibly is known as the best emotional scene of the whole season and also just as possibly, the entire series -- Nick sitting despondently in the back of a cargo plane that's carrying the remains of a brother of war home to be buried. 'Home For Christmas'. Any 'Riptide' fan can instantly picture the scene and hear the haunting music of John and Yoko singing "Happy Christmas (War is Over)" in the background. That song just... fit. There's no other way to explain it. The scene is there, the song is not and it's such a huge loss to not have them both together. And to not have other songs that just 'fit' on other episodes -- "The Famous Final Scene" for Cody and Janet's last scenes in 'Smiles We Left Behind' being another huge loss. The scenes are still there, don't get me wrong, but they lose a great deal of impact without the music that used to accompany them. br / br /My only wish, other than having the original music back, is that VEI would have taken the time, considered the scene and had music and vocals that were a bit more meaningful and supportive of those scenes. But, sometimes there has to be compromise and that's what this fan has done. In the end, I'm still extremely grateful to VEI for releasing the whole series onto DVD. It's about time, and THANK YOU again!
