5 out of 5 stars Amazing! A must read!   September 5, 2008
I heard a lot about The Shack, but didn't read it until almost a year later. Surprisingly, this book exceeded my expectations! There are a lot of lessons to be learned from reading this book. Personally, the chapter on judgement was very challenging for me. You'll still be mulling over what you read in this book weeks after you've finished it. Read it and pass it on, or buy copies for your friends. Everyone should read this book!

5 out of 5 stars The "Hype" is Real!   August 28, 2008
I read this book because I have been hearing about it for months and I couldn't resist seeing what it was all about.

I found myself on an emotional rollercoaster that I had no intention of getting off of. Rather than reading a work of fiction, I felt like God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit were "limiting themselves" (as the book calls it) to join me in a capacity I could grasp.

Although I have been a Christian for many years, there were so many concepts opened up in this book that I realized I never truly understood. Not only do I now have a more tangible grasp on the God I love, but I feel more confident in telling others about Him, knowing that I can answer some of their questions in a clear way.

What really hit home for me was the discussion on worry and how, often, when we worry about the future, we don't think about God being there, at least I don't. He's here with me now, helping me with what I'm going through, but I never put Him in the future. But He's there.

I plan to read this book several more time, taking notes and highlighting passages that speak to me. Such intimacy with God seems so much more tangible since I've read this book - I couldn't ask for a better gift.

5 out of 5 stars Beautifully written, it really touched my body, mind and spirit   August 15, 2008
A friend highly recommended it and said, "Don't give up if you find the beginning tough". Boy, was she right. An emotional ride that was lovingly cushioned by God's ever-present, ever-gracious spirit.

Thank you, William P. Young.

5 out of 5 stars Insightful, imaginative - a great read!   July 24, 2008

A great read! Insightfully written, and imaginatively vivid. This book gave me a new set of vibrant personal images for appreciating and understanding who God is. Some will say these non-traditional characterizations are un-biblical but I find them to be well in line with the God of the scriptures, as well as being tastefully and artisically drawn. Buy this book!

5 out of 5 stars A God of Surprises!   July 6, 2008

Young gives us a personal encounter with a God, full of surprises, wisdom, great, great love and intimacy in a cruel, sad, heart-wrenching, and almost unbearable world. We have our notions of God from experience, observation, religion, the Bible or holy books but if there is a God, our notions are all inadequate. This is quite obvious as Mack, the main character encounters Papa God in all His manifestations, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The Bible does not contain a complete description of God for it would take volumes and volumes to describe all the aspects of His infinite being and if writings can give us a greater sense of our Creator, let us be open to examine that. The Bible mentions God as a Shepherd, housewife, and a hen. There are many more comparisons we can make as we get to know Him better. Young's book is a stimulating read that tackles questions of good and evil, free will, forgiveness, and faith.
