YTV was only the distributer of Naruto in Canada, they played no part in the editing or dubbing process. The edited versions were those shown originally on Cartoon Network in the US, and were dubbed and edited by the people you praise, VIZ Media. They released unedited versions with Japanese voice-over option so that people like you wouldn't complain.
3 stars because the anime isn't as good as the manga.

5 out of 5 stars Yay, Japanese Dubbing   September 13, 2006

I started watching this anime before YTV picked it up and destroyed it with English Dubbing. When I heard a boxset of 13 episodes was coming out I was preying for Japanese Dubbing being included and it was. Not only that but they also didn't cut out the blood that was originally in the show Pre-YTV editing. It has the original openings and closings from Pre-YTV and it is exactly what I wanted in a Naruto Boxset. Thank you Viz Video.
