Anyone wanting to get in shape like the stars need go no further than Bryan Kest's videos. Kest teaches wildly popular yoga classes in Santa Monica, California--so popular that stars like Rhea Perlman, David Duchovny, and Elisabeth Shue willingly sweat alongside the hoi polloi in Kest's packed, ancient loft studio. If you don't happen to be in the neighborhood, not to worry: Kest's yoga videos are nearly as good as being there. Volume 1: Energize is a beginner level class that nonetheless is smartly designed to provide challenges for all levels of users. Kest's Jersey-boy voice at first seems in contrast to the serene environment and inner-peace objectives, but it gradually becomes soothing and hypnotic in its own right. Stretches and strengthening moves are alternated with just enough repose to keep even first timers on track. After mastering Vol. 1, practitioners can go on to Volume 2: Tone or Volume 3: Sweat to further challenge themselves. As long as you keep in mind Kest's personal mantra--"If you're doing the best you can, you're doing this class perfectly"--you and this video should have many satisfying years of workouts together. --Anne Hurley

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful yoga practices!   April 30, 2008
In addition to the fabulous value (three full workouts on one DVD), these workouts are amazing. I had been doing yoga for a while and felt the need for a challenge and something new. These workouts are wonderful. I had honestly never felt so tired and unbelievably stretched and loose until I did Bryan's practices. The first one wasn't too hard for me, just lovely. The second one is challenging for me--I work HARD. The third one is advanced and I will have to practice a lot to master it. So there is something for every level. The production values are wonderful, which is a nice surprise for a somewhat older video. Everything is very professional and Bryan has a really good attitude and stays on top of his instruction even though he does talk throughout (whereas a lot of instructors get to talking and then don't realize how long they've made you hold a pose). Anybody and everybody will find something rewarding and useful in this DVD.

I was hesitant to buy this DVD because so many people criticized Bryan (for his outfits and the way he touched his students). Well, yes, he is wearing jeans in one of them, but he's only instructing and never demonstrates any poses while wearing them. All of the workouts include snipits of Bryan doing yoga, but he's always wearing spandex bottoms. And I don't think he is ever inappropriate in touching his students. All he does is very gently help his students get further into poses--which is what he's supposed to do!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent workout....   April 12, 2008
I've been doing Yoga on and off for over 30 years ... I just recently started doing it at home because I just like the privacy of my bedroom... I find that after a yoga session I just like to relax and take a hot bath rather than get in my car and drive home.... Well, I needed my hot bath after this workout... I loved it, although it was difficult I know that after 2 or 3 sessions I'll be ok... I found his instructions a bit fast but I know I'll get used to that. I loved holding the poses while he explained, for some reason it just makes me feel strong :D .... When I purchased it I had read a lot of the positive comments and I was happy with that, but then I read the negative comments but it was too late to back out, I'm glad I didn't cancel my order... I'm 51 and I don't mind at all the beautiful bodies in the video, great eye candy ....

5 out of 5 stars Works for me!   December 3, 2007
This DVD is great. There are 3 sessions on one DVD, which allows you to not get as bored with the workouts when you are using the DVD often. The participants are in good shape, and there are people of all levels of flexibility, which is nice to see. Bryan directs well and often reminds you to work to your own level but also to challenge yourself - whatever that is to you. Highly recommend this DVD!

5 out of 5 stars Best Yoga Video Ever   November 1, 2006

I've always been a bigger fan of going to classes rather than following a video, but this one takes the cake!
A month of doing this video had me in positions I hadn't seen in years and feeling stronger than ever.
This video is not for the weak, it will really push you hard and is very physically demanding. If you are looking for a slower hatha type yoga, this is not for you. If you want to push your flexibility farther while strengthening your muscles, buy this, and do it! You'll see the difference.

I can not say enough great things about this DVD collection. If you are at all curious about learning Yoga, this is a great place to start. If you are an experienced yogi or yogini then this is also a great DVD to add to your collection. Bryan Kest not only gives you a great workout, he allows you to accept were you are at. As a power yoga teacher myself, I can olny hope that I can give my students the spiritual guidance and physical challenge that this collection gives. Bravo!!
