4 out of 5 stars Hello Heart!   September 22, 2005

Wow! This turned out to be a better workout than I thought it would be. It starts with a 15 min warm-up, then goes right into 1 of 2 routines. Now instead of breaking down each step as most exercise tapes do, Vanessa strings 4 moves together at tempo. She then breaks down the 4 moves twice and back to tempo again. This, would be my only complaint about this workout. Not enough cueing nor time spent to break down the routines, so you better be a quick learner or just rewind your dvd a few times. This workout is fun and gets your heart rate pumping. It's low impact with a few high impact moves but mostly a lot of full body movements. The steps are pretty basic but very agressive if you really get into it. Some steps may take a bit of time depending on whether or not dance moves come easy to you. So get a towel, get ready to sweat and have fun!

2 out of 5 stars not bad, but not awesome   February 23, 2005

It's very obvious that Vanessa is an extremely talented dancer and the music is great and it is fun. However, I did not find this a good workout. I have a few other dance videos, and for me, the problem with this one is that there is too much marching on the spot. I also found that the instruction and camera angles weak.

If you want an instruction Brazilian Dance video to learn how to dance, this is for you. But if you are looking for a decent workout, I wouldn't recommend it, unless you are a beginner to working out.

5 out of 5 stars Great workout for all shapes & sizes   July 8, 2004

I tried this work-out once and was hooked! I use it on alternating days between high intensity kickboxing work-outs. But don't get me wrong-- you WILL get your heart rate up and you WILL sweat. You'll just feel really good doing it! The difference is that this is a work-out for ALL fitness levels since the movements can be adapted to your own body's needs or comfort level. The best part of this work-out is how you feel doing it. Since you're learning and dancing to incredible live music, you hardly notice how much of a full body work-out you're getting.

By the 3rd or 4th time you use the work-out you'll have learned most of the basic movements so you can just really DANCE and have fun! Its a great low-impact work-out for almost anyone who wants to really dance. I'm even buying a copy for my mother for her birthday this year!

4 out of 5 stars Brazilian Dance Workout   July 1, 2004

I really enjoyed this workout. I do a lot of weight training and Tae Bo, so I wanted something a bit more feminine that would still work up a sweat. This was it! The dancers are regular people, the rhythm is contagious, and even though it takes doing it a few times to get the moves down, it's worth the effort. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that it doesn't burn as many calories as Tae Bo, and I would like to find a dance-based workout that does. However, even if you're a beginner, this is a great cardio workout!

I ran this tape for the first time tonight. I am 80 lbs. overweight and haven't had such a great time moving in 20 years! It's fabulous, sexy, fun and a godsend for me. If you need help and motivation getting yourself moving again, try this one!
