This superlative concert video is a godsend for fans of Electric Light Orchestra, since ELO's IZoom/I tour was cut short, sadly, because of lackluster ticket sales. Judging from this tour-opening performance (in May 2001, at the CBS studios in Los Angeles), those canceled gigs were a major loss, because Jeff Lynne's revamped ELO is in top form, playing six new songs from IZoom/I (ELO's first release in 15 years) and 17 hits from the band's beloved legacy. Like the meticulous producer he is, guitarist-composer Lynne plays cordial frontman to an appreciative audience, and his re-creation of ELO's classical-rock sound is astonishing in its fidelity to the studio recordings. From the moment ELO's signature "space-ship" stage blossoms to reveal Lynne's eight-piece ensemble (including, of course, two cellists), there's not a weak song in the brisk 98-minute set. IZoom Tour Live/I is ample compensation for those who bought useless tickets to an ill-fated show. I--Jeff Shannon/I

5 out of 5 stars The best DVD of my ENTIRE collection   January 4, 2005
Bob Kay (Midland, Ontario Canada)
I have dozens of music DVDs and this one is number one - sound quality is superb, the video work has that smokey edge to it - WOW! Yes, DTS baby. Jeff gets the sound absolutely RIGHT! The only drag is that it is missing a couple of tracks. SURPRISE inside - a couple of Zoom tracks area actually really good. Wow, who would have thought such an old guy could write music that good. This DVD is the sleeper - just about everyone who I've played it for has bought it. If you loved ELO get it for sure! If you didn't love ELO, this will win you over.

5 out of 5 stars ELO - Zoom Tour Live   June 17, 2004

I agree with other comments I've seen: if you're an old ELO fan, this DVD is excellent. I was certainly not disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Where's the Cello's!!!   June 2, 2004

Ok, so this still deserves five stars, however it is in danger of falling to four. 'Why?' I hear you cry out at your computer screen. Because, I am very much a fan of the early years of ELO with Cello's gallor. On this DVD we have two rather attracive women gently playing their Cello's, barely being heard over the guitars etc. Yeah, so Mr Tandy tries to back the Cello's up but it's still pretty feeble. This is very noticable on two of my favourite tracks, 10538 Oveture and Roll Over Beethoven. On the former ther are no french horns, and virtually no Cello's, which were there by the dozens on the original. And what of the Violin and Cello solo's on the latter? Not even attempted!br These are however little problems that I needed to get off my chest. In reality this is a very good DVD and a must for any ELO fan. I'm just to picky, that's my problem.

5 out of 5 stars Hello....how are you? Have you been alright?   May 18, 2004

ELO was my favorite band for most of my high school years (late 70s). I eventually left ELO behind as being an outdated dinosaur band. Then in the late 90's I picked up a few of their better albums (now on CD, of course) and rediscovered them. Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of seeing the band live, but this DVD almost makes up for it. Although it's really more The Jeff Lynne Show than ELO (I certainly don't recall three hot woman being in the band back in the 70s!). The show was beautifully filmed in a small venue, Lynne's voice sounds as good as it ever did, and the songs.....well, if you're reading this I probably don't have to tell you about those magnificent songs. Instead, you're probably wondering whether or not you should bother spending the money on the DVD. The answer is YES! Both the sound and picture quality are excellent. And hearing Lynne sing One Summer Dream and Telephone Line again may just make you cry.
