Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Spanish movies with creepy little kids; a proven recipe for success!   May 17, 2008
"The Orphanage" is a Spanish chiller in the vain of "Pan's Labyrinth" and especially, Guillermo Del Toro's 90's masterstroke "The Devil's Backbone". Whereas those movies were period pieces, The Orphanage takes place in the present as a mother returns to the abandones orphanage where she grew up to raise her son.

Not surprisingly, the place is filled with ghosts of the children who died there in a tragic accident. Soon after, the mother's son goes missing and she embarks on an obsessive journey to find him.

Believe the hype; this is one of the best horror movies in a LONG time. It's genuinely creepy, has a great story, is filled with chilling mythology and goes places we seldom espect it to. A true winner that will stand the test of time and is sure to become a modern horror classic.
