There is only a certain number of cartoons that make a mark on a decade
and "Drak Pack" is one of them. When "Drak Pack" went on the air for one
season from 1980-1981 it was good show from start to finsh and was well
put together. The DVD set is well put together and plays well. The only thing wrong is that there isn't any bouns extras which would make the DVD
set more interesting. But,still is nice for memory lane memories.

5 out of 5 stars WHACK-O!   December 19, 2007

I got an early Christmas present when I found out the "Drak Pack" was coming to DVD. It's one of my favorite cartoons from the early 80s.

The Drak Pack consists of Drak, Howler and Frankie. They are teenage descendants of Count Dracula, Wolfman and Frankenstein's monster (respectively). Drak is Count Dracula's nephew, but it's not said how Howler and Frankie are related to their relatives, i.e., nephew, son, brother.

The Pack initially appear as normal human beings, but when they put their hands together and shout "whack-o" (that's called the Drak Whack), they become superheroes: Drak turns into a vampire, Frankie a monster and Howler a werewolf. Their mission is to make up for all the bad things their ancestors did.

Drak can fly and change into a variety of shapes, but he usually goes with the standard bat. Frankie has super strength and his neck bolts shoot out electrical charges. Howler has super breath and an ultrasonic howl. They call each other by the same names whether they're human or monster. Sorta seems to defeat the purpose of that whole secret identity thing.

They use their super powers to fight evil and the main bad guy is Dr. Dred. His henchmen are Toad (his "toady"), Mummyman, Fly and Vampira, and they collectively made up OGRE, the Organization of Generally Rotten Enterprises (it's also been referred to as Endeavors).

When the Pack needs advice, they turn to Count Dracula, who they call "Big D."

There were only 16 episodes made and in my opinion, this series was so underrated: The dialogue is surprisingly smart - and quite funny - for a Saturday morning cartoon. Count Dracula's and Dr. Dred's voices are some of the best done in an animated show/cartoon. And hearing Big D pine for his "old diet" or watching him (regularly) slam his fingers in the lid when he closes his coffin is priceless.
