| Editorial Reviews:
From Amazon.com Remember that scene in iJerry Maguire/i where the title character suddenly realizes the foolhardiness of his impulsively written manifesto? That's how director Alan Parker (iMississippi Burning/i) ought to feel every day of his life since making this dopey, 1976 musical featuring an all-kid cast playing Prohibition-era gangsters and molls. What was Parker thinking? The cuteness of the concept never did hold up for more than 10 minutes, but the film extends it impossibly into a feature. Jodie Foster is on hand, lip-synching a Paul Williams song (Williams wrote the score), but even she can't detract from Parker's silliness. It's a toss-up as to whether children will enjoy watching it, since the characters and the milieu are based on adult situations. I--Tom Keogh/I

Adorable Movie June 7, 2004 Charlie (California, USA, Earth) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Totally cute, all actors around the age of 12, scott baio is at his prime, it's easy to see why jodie foster becomes so big later in life, cute songs, extremly well done for a childrens musical but great entertainment for all-A must see for drama majors

A really fun movie... February 17, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just watched this again yesterday. What a great movie. My son, 11, watched it with me and wanted to watch it again today. It's cute, fun and, as much as I don't care for Paul Williams, the music is infectious.pMy only problem is that it portrays the kids in very adult settings and costuming and roles. Fat Sam's is a speak-easy, and though they're running sarsparilla instead of whiskey it's still an adult setting. Jodie Foster's almost alluring when she sings Tallulah, and considering she's about 12 when she did the song I'm a uncomfortable with that.pOverall I would recommend it. From the proper perspective it's innocent and memorable.

Why not on DVD? I first saw this film with my daughter in Amstedam, Holland. It packed the house!
A Return to Innocence December 21, 2003 Douglas R. Westlake (Willmar, MN United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
With all of the reviews I have read, this is just redundant. I just thought that maybe the more positive feed back it gets, the better chance of seeing it on DVD!! I loved the movie as a child back in the '70s, and I would really like to add it to my collection for the kids. It is hard to find good, clean, entertainment for the kids today. Even many of the kids channels have questionable fare. This one teaches all the right lessons in all the right ways! When it shows up on DVD, I will definitely be in line.
