1 out of 5 stars ICK! not worth the price of rental, the movie ticket or the DVD   May 25, 2008

What a mess! What was the point of making this one? You can't do this story properly in under five hours. I found this version very un-Austen, and very unnecessary with the wonderful 1995 BBC adaptation still fresh and excellent.

3 out of 5 stars Love Jane Austen   March 31, 2008

Pride and Prejudice is really my all time favourite book and movie. I did enjoy this rendition but it does not measure up to the BBC series. I found the two younger sisters here were made into silly charactertures as was the mother. I enjoyed the purist version is so much more appealing. Although Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy do have great chemistry.

With the BIG NAME cast, this version was a FLOP. Acting was bad, Character buildup was non existant, etc, etc. This is not Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. It certainly does not deserve the one star rating given. I had no other choice.

I'm so happy that I read the book before seeing this adaptation. I'm also VERY HAPPY that I first bought the AE 10th Anniversary Limited Collector's Edition of Pride Prejudice before seeing this adaptation. br / br /My Best Friend told me she saw the MCA version insisted that I see it. I said okay, we'll switch and then we can decide which one we enjoyed the most. I've concluded that my version is better (not because I own it) but because every scene made sense. My best friend on the other hand thought that the AE version had too much detail and did not enjoy it as much. I said too much detail? that is exactly why i enjoy it. I said that her version lacked a lot of why Jane wrote the book in the first place. I did not enjoy jumping from scene to scene with a lot of missing chunks I had to figure out. I mean we all watch movies so we don't have to guess the missing parts right? things must flow nicely in order and the AE version did just that. br / br /I only saw MCA's adaptation once and will not again. br / br /I'll say it again, I'm So Happy I own the AE version (i've watched it so many times DO NOT tire of it), my best friend and I have agreed to disagree and still remain friends today :)

the problem is, how do you review it ! br / br /Someone you know did a nice painting of a woman, called it The Mona Lisa.. br /You wouldnt buy it, but someone who didnt know might fall for the name.. br / br /Its not even an honest adaptation of Pride Prejudice, with not only inaccuracies everywhere to the extent of being ridiculous, but the only way they can be explained is if they were all deliberately opposite to br /the real PP, but, with the name, Pride and Prejudice . . br / br /as if someone had taken a screenlay for PP and then changed the characters for changes sake, so as to be different.. br /ie, not adapted PP but deliberately ruined the core of it, to create an br /american telemovie with men and women in it, but called Pride Prejudice. br / br /even if it is lovely cinematography with nice american actors playing roles somewhere in england at some time with names, as in PP, and despite some excellent performances - totally out of character with their br /namesakes in PP - it is still a phoney and a fraud, presented as it is as br /Jane Austens Pride and Prejudice.. br / br /my main reason for the one star is resistance to being duped, plus, br /good folk will or might take this as, Jane Austens Pride and Prejudice, br /and then never have the pleasure of the real thing,, br / br / br /to the lucky reviewers and others who havnt, seen the BBC version, or even br /read the book, lucky, you ! br / br /its about $50 from amazon, about $2 per chapter . . br /and you'll watch it over and over again . . br / br /you can even download it from share networks for free . . br /the shorter Sense and Sensibility is pretty good too . . br /finally if you are really interested, read the other one star reviews . .
