ICeltic Woman/I, the PBS sensation, returns for 2007 in IA New Journey: Live at Slane Castle, Ireland/I. Most of the elements return as well: vocalists Chloe, Meav, Lisa, and Orla; fiery fiddler Mairead; music director David Downes; chorus and orchestra; and the New Age-y Celtic and traditional music. New for this show is New Zealand vocalist Hayley Westenra, a picturesque outdoor location, and an almost entirely new song list. Chloe sings "The Prayer" (made famous by Josh Groban) and "Panis Angelicus"; Lisa covers "Caledonia," "The Blessing," and "The Voice"; Orla sings "Newgrange" and accompanies herself on harp for "Carrickfergus"; Meav sings "Dulaman"; Mairead plays "Granuaile's Dance" and "Shenandoah: The Pacific Slope"; and Hayley sings "Scarborough Fair" by herself and duets with Mairead (Handel's "Lascia Ch'io Pianga") and Meav ("The Last Rose of Summer"). Then of course the group performs together ("The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun," "Over the Rainbow," "Beyond the Sea," "At the Ceili," "Sing Out!", "Spanish Lady," "Mo Ghile Mear"). Encore performances from the original show are Enya's "Orinoco Flow," "Danny Boy," "Somewhere," and "You Raise Me Up." Hayley proves to be an excellent fit among the beautiful voices, and Lisa seems to emerge as the talent most deserving of attention, but overall the show lacks some of the fresh sparkle of the original. The song list isn't quite as strong, and some of the "primp and pose" choreography is just silly. But ICeltic Woman/I is never less than charming, and at its best can be quite stirring. I--David Horiuchi/I

5 out of 5 stars Reference quality DVD!   December 16, 2007

I love a good music DVD....I own over a hundred. This is one of the best outdoor, live recordings, I have found to date. It is one thing to record in a concert hall where most things are under the producer's control, however, outdoors can be intimidating. Then to have the recording live where you only get one chance at it really puts the pressure on. br / br /In this DVD you will find well lit sets, superb surround quality with excellent separation, and intelligent mix-down that adds to the "I'm really there" feeling. Just about as good as it gets! BTW: The songs aren't half bad either.

These are some very talented Celtic women. As well there is an amazingly young talented orchestra. Everyone gets into this video. The drummers are incredible. The DVD is so well put together, you feel like you are there, especially with surround sound. The costumes are colourful, set wonderful and the music spell-binding. Don't hesitate to put this one in your collection. It's a concert you'll want to watch over over again. It is indeed worth more than 5 stars.

Worth 10 STARS in my opinion! Spellbinding music and choreography! More than once, the beauty of music brought tears to my eyes! The setting for concert was unique and added perfect ambiance to the music cast! This is sure to be one of my most treasured pieces in my library! I know I will be playing it over over and be sharing it with family friends. If in doubt whether to buy or not, don't wait! Money well spent. Would make a very thoughtful Gift for anyone br /Irish or not! Needless to say, LOVE IT!!! Truly Talented cast!

Just received my copy of Celtic Woman/Slane Castle from Amazon today (great delivery service, arrived much sooner than expected). Both the picture and sound are outstanding....the scenery is majestic in the Bonus Extra 'making of a new journey'. Incredible performances of 25 memorable arrangements.....this is a concert that I will enjoy many times in the months ahead.
