From Amazon.com In a departure from L.M. Montgomery's book series, this third TV movie jumps ahead to World War I and puts Anne and her beloved Gilbert smack in the middle of it. Instead of marrying Gilbert after her teaching days--as she does in the books--Anne spends a disillusioning year with him in New York City, and then the couple quickly marries before the good doctor ships out to France. (In the book IRilla of Ingleside/I, Anne's sons go to war and her youngest daughter is separated from her sweetheart.) Impetuous as ever, Anne joins the Red Cross and crosses the pond to track down her husband when his letters are returned unread. What follows is an adventure that takes her through battle zones--where the bodies pile up faster than you can say ISaving Private Ryan/I--and on to London with a half-orphaned baby, her best friend's injured husband, and a tangle of international intrigue. Fans of the 10-book series may balk at the divergences and the fact that very little time is spent on Prince Edward Island. But the book's unrestrained romanticism and unapologetic sentimentality remain intact, as well as the surviving cast of the prior two movies, most notably Megan Follows as Anne and Jonathan Crombie as Gilbert. This movie, produced in 2000, clocks in at 185 minutes and is suitable for ages 9 and older. I--Kimberly Heinrichs/I

Beware ordering this disk October 3, 2005 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
If you are an international customer and you choose Standard International Shipping for your purchases in order to minimise cost and avoid additional taxes and duties at the country of destination, beware ordering from Amazon Canada. They have been known to disregard shipping instructions and send items by Priority International Courier even if you haven't selected that method, which in some countries leads to the imposition of additional taxes and duties on the arrival of the package.
Anne The Action Hero June 20, 2005 Jen Mountney (New Lowell, Ontario Canada) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was greatly disappointed with this movie. They might as well have called it 'Anne The Action Hero'. Instead of staying true to Lucy Maud Montgomery's story, Anne and Gilbert go off to the war, the war their children were actually fighting. Instead of seeing Anne and Gilbert settle into family life with their children, the writers instead made up this crazy movie with so many plots and basically a lot of chaos. It was so sad to watch this movie knowing that they had officially ruined the Anne of Green Gables trilogy. Sadly too, the movie was made so many years after the second one that Anne looks very aged. It would have been much more appropriate to follow her family life and watch her children growing and all the great adventures they had.
3rd Anne and Gilbert Movie March 4, 2005 Kylie Bardwell (Australia) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have to say that l thought this movie was the best movie l had seen in a long time. l know that it dosn't follow the storyline in the books at all, but it was very upbeat and exciting with a great twist in the storyline. It went from New York, back home, to seeing Gilbert leave to go to war. Getting her letters sent back Unknown Address Anne decides to follow in her Husbands footsteps 2 years after Gilbert had gone. Kevin Sullivan did a great job of this movie with some great acting from all the cast.
not what I expected November 6, 2004 Monika (Edmonton, Alberta Canada) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was hoping that it would stick to the original novels, but there are 8 of them after all, and the DVD's would have to go on for quite a while to fit it all in. They should have stuck to the original plot, like the other movies, and the fans of these beloved tales of Anne would have given much better reviews. If they perhaps completed the project sooner, the actors themselves would not look so much older, but you can't stop the aging process unfortunetly. It was a decent try, but the plot was too much to handle.
Huge disappointment! October 23, 2004 S E B (British Columbia, Canada) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is not even worthy of being called The Continuing Story as it is so completely different from L.M.Montgomery's original novels. It was such a disappointment, and horrifying to see them stray so much from what were some of the best books and movies I've ever read and seen. I cannot believe the original actors signed on to this project - if they had truly stuck to the story, it would have been wonderful.
