When Randy the video geek rattles off the rules of surviving a horror movie in Wes Craven's IScream/I, he speaks for a generation of filmgoers who are all too aware of slasher movie cliches. Playfully scripted by Kevin Williamson with a self-aware wink and more than a few nods to its grandfathers (from IPsycho/I to IHalloween/I to the IFriday the 13th/I dynasty), IScream/I skewers teen horror conventions with loving reverence while re-creating them in a modern, movie-savvy context. And so goes the series, which continues the satirical spoofing by tackling (what else?) sequels while sustaining its own self-contained mythology. Catty reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) turns grisly murders into lurid bestsellers, a cult of killer wannabes continues to hunt spunky psycho-survivor Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) for their 15 minutes of fame, and a cheesy movie series (IStab/I) develops within the movie series.p IScream/I remains the high point of the series--a fresh take on a genre long since collapsed into routine, but IScream 2/I spoofs itself with witty humor ("Why would anyone want to do that? Sequels suck!" opines college film student Randy), and delights with more elaborate set pieces and all-new rules for surviving a horror movie sequel. The endangered veterans of the original film reunite one last time for IScream 3/I, which plays out on the movie set of IStab 3/I. (It's a trilogy within a trilogy!) With Williamson gone, replacement screenwriter Ehran Kruger tries to mine the formula one more time. It's a little tired by now, and pale imitations (IUrban Legend/I, II Know What You Did Last Summer/I) have further drained the zeitgeist, but the film bubbles with bright humor, and director Craven is stylistically at the top of his game. As a trilogy, it remains both the most consistently entertaining and self-aware horror series ever made. I--Sean Axmaker/I

DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. br /I've ordered this item TWICE now and both times did not recieve the scream box set that the description/picture lead you to think your getting. Instead I got the three original dvd releases (with limited bonus features) wrapped in plastic wrap. A total rip off.

5 out of 5 stars 5 STARS ISNT ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!   August 13, 2004

I LOVED THE FIRST SCREAM WITH A PASSION. I ENJOYED THE SECOND ONE BUT COULDNT HELP NOTICING CERTAIN BAD PLOT POINTS AND 1 TOO MANY REHASHES. THAT SAID I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING SCREAM 3 BUT WAS EXPECTING IT ONCE AGAIN TO GO DOWN A NOTCH FROM THE SECOND FILM. WAS I WRONG!!!!!!!!!! SCREAM 3 IS OUTSTANDING!!! YOU WILL NEVER BEAT THE ORIGINAL BUT MY GOD DOES THIS COME EVER CLOSE!!!!!! I FELT LIKE I WAS BACK IN THE CINEMA WATCHING THE SEQUEL TO SCREAM AND NOT THE CAMPY DAWSONS CREEK STYLE SCREAM2 THE MOVIE ACTUALLY WAS. IT INSULTED MY INTELLIGENCE. THE THIRD HOWEVER WAS BACK ON TRACK WITH A MUCH SHARPER PLOT AND AN INCREDIBLE CAST, PATRICK DEMPSEY, PARKER POSEY, LANCE HENRIKSEN WHO IS NOW IN 2 PERFECT MOVIE TRILOGYS THE OTHER BEING ALIEN. SCOTT FOLEY WAS ALSO A LITTTLE MORE SERIOUS AND HAD MORE OF A POINT THAN THE RIDICULOUS KILLERS FROM SCREAM2 AND IT WAS SUCH A SHOCK TO SEE LIEV SCHRIEBER IN THE OPENING SEQUENCE WICH HAS NEVER BEEN A CHARACTER WE ALREADY KNOW AND COULD FEEL FOR. IT WAS A LOT DARKER AND CLEVERER AND MANAGED TO CONNECT FLAWLESSLY BACK TO THE ORIGINAL MURDERS. I ALSO LOVED THE VOICE CHANGING DEVICE AND REALISED WE DIDNT REALLY GET ANYTHING NEW FROM SCREAM2 AFTER SEEING WHAT SCREAM3 ADDED. ALL IN ALL THE TRILOGY IS FANTASTIC AND FOR GODSAKE WES CRAVEN LEAVE IT BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FIRST OF ALL LET ME JUST SAY THAT YOU WILL NEVER BEAT THE ORIGINAL SCREAM. SECONDLY, THIS IS TRULY A MASTERPIECE, AND ALOT BETTER ACTED AND SHARPER THAN IT'S PREDECESSER SCREAM2. LETS HOPE WES CRAVEN AND NEVE CAMPBELL HAVE THE SENSE TO LEAVE THIS GOING OUT ON A VERY HIGH NOTE, AS JAIMIE LEE CURTIS SHOULD HAVE DONE WITH HALLOWEEN H20, I MEAN WOULD ANYBODY SPIT ON A COPY OF HALLOWEEN RESURRECTION?

1 out of 5 stars What? Scooby-Doo?   July 15, 2004
I LOVED SCREAM. When I first saw the TV spots, I was like Hey, that's like those old slasher films I loved as a kid and when I saw it, I was blown away. When I heard it was a Star Wars Trilogy of Terror, I was SO HAPPY. When part 2 came out I rushed to the theaters - had a great night - and was so excited to see where the characters would go and by the end I was so looking forward to the last part to see how it all came together.pHowever, even in part 2 I saw that the STUDIO was starting to throw their weight around...Hm...Maybe it was nothing.pThen part 3 came out. Guys. This movie sucked. Kevin Williamson didn't even get to write it (they THREW OUT HIS TREATMENT REMEMBER?). He didn't even get to realize his trilogy vision. Instead, Ehran Kruger did and that guy really blew it. This isn't funny. This isn't scary. It's cheesy. Admittedly, I was intrigued by Sydney's mother's past, but was that the original intent when Williamson wrote it? Is THAT how he was going to bring it together? Scream 3 is a rip off of a great movie, namely Scream. They were making up the script as they went along, folks. Come on. This became a cheesy Scooby-Doo mystery. I realize this came out when Columbine was fresh on everyone's mind so they were trying to be more cheesy to take the edge away. But they SHOULD HAVE WAITED until Williamson was done with HIS real magnum opus Teaching Mrs. Tingle and until things cooled down a bit in the media and then made the REAL Scream 3, not this lame attempt at the Weinsteins' wanting money. pOf course I bought the boxed set. I accept that THIS is the Star Wars Trilogy of Terror that we're stuck with. But somewhere in the back of my mind, I'll still be that guy watching Scream 2, greatly anticipating the end of a great trilogy.pUnfortunately, that great end will never come.

2 out of 5 stars Horror Movie Satire   June 28, 2004
I don't find these movies to be scary. I wouldn't even consider them slashers. They are more funny than scary. Its like an episode of scooby doo where every one is suspicious and the gang is tring to figure out who it is. Also the motivation for the murders in these movies are so lame. And at the end they always explain why they did it like in scooby doo. Though not as bad as Blair witch, the series comes pretty close. There bad acting and stale plots earns this series a **/***** star rating. For those who can't find a good horror movie try thesebr:Videodrome, Bad taste, Deep red, suspiria, Hellraiser, Don't look now, Rosemary's baby, Texas Chainsaw massacre(1974), Exorcist, The beyond, Dead Ringers, Evil Dead, The omen, Psycho, Black Christmas and If none of these work for you, I don't think horror is the genre for you
