Half a season!? What the heck!? December 15, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At first, when I looked at all the episodes stated on the DVD 3-pack, I noticed that there were episodes missing! What is up with that? I agree with the other reviews, it is a rip off paying so much for only half a season... and when is the rest of the season going to come out? Are they going to put those few episodes on another 3 DVD's? I have a suggestion for those who made the DVD's... next time, do like the simpsons and south park and put ALL the episodes of that season on the DVD's.
They made a sucker out of me. October 24, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This show is definitely on the down-slide. The jokes aren't very good like they used to be and some parts in this collection carry on for 20 seconds or so and they are just plain dumb. This is the last I buy of Family Guy if they can't even give us a decent value for our money by giving us 1/2 a season. I seriously don't expect it to be on the air for too much longer. And American Dad makes me cringe even more. What passes for entertainment these days saddens me. Don't buy this. Take your $30+ bucks and go and see a decent movie with your significant other. You will be glad you did.
Nothing higher than average. September 25, 2007 Well, here we have another batch of 13 episodes of Family Guy. My first gripe is the fact that this is only a half season. While paying 30 bucks for it sounds very cheap, you're getting a much inferior product.
The first two discs contain all of the episodes, with the third disc having special features. I found the third disc to be useless, nothing of interest was on it, unless you want to find out about Family Guy merchandise and toys, then I guess it's right up your ally. The third disc was disappointing to say the least.
The first two discs aren't much better. I was kind of hoping to see the show go back to its season 1 to season 3 roots, but unfortunately, this wasn't the case. Many of the jokes now are becoming very hit and miss, about 90% miss and 10% hit. While I don't think the show is awful, I do think it's a shell of its former glory; added to the fact that this is only a half season release which isn't going to please me any more to begin with. The cut aways are now way too drawn out and 90% of them are just not funny anymore. Most of them now consist of senseless rambling going on for 20 seconds past what the time should have been. I miss the classic cutaway clips that were genius and hilarious and well thought out.
While I am still a fan of the show, I am disappointed in this collection of episodes. The half season release is awful and just a way to get loyal fans of the show to spend more money on a crappy product. Most episodes, bar 3-4 were mediocre and nothing even close to what Family Guy used to be. It's amazing how after 11 seasons, South Park can stay fresh and hilarious but yet, Family Guy struggles and hasn't been on half as long! If the writers actually thought about what they were writing instead of just inserting random fart jokes or senseless clips that aren't funny, then this show would be fantastic once again. Pretty much anyone could write for Family Guy at the way this show is going!
ie: Peter: Remember the time I got food poisoning from eating at Wendy's? *cuts away* Peter: Oh my God! This burger is just awful. *Farts violently and craps himself* Uh oh...
There, I did it, I wrote for Family Guy!
(Hoping and praying for better episodes but not holding my breath)
Half a Season September 24, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
What can be expected from Fox, always wanting more money for less. With Family Guy, a once lamented and controversial television series that was brought back to life with DVD sales, and rumors of it's cutting edge sense of humour has returned with half of a season with volume five. Although, I am a long time collector, I got the first two season the day it was released and maintained my collection the past few years. I've enjoyed all the seasons on a sliding scale, with the second and third seasons being the best and funniest. Thereafter, the franchise became more outrageous and more predictable, relying greatly on the segways and clips that dealt with movies and other social issues. The show is still one of the funniest out there, but its starting to show its age with some episodes that aren't anything more then a whole bunch of American cultural references taken to extremes. But I must admit the episode, Road to Irag starts off funny, but slowly falls short of the intended anti-war message. There are laughs to be had with this series of episodes, but slowly the franchise has started losing its effectiveness; whereas South Park has maintain its scathing sense of humour. But devotees will buy this set regardless, although the up-start show has become part of the established line-up with the Simpsons and King of the Hill found on Fox. It's still funny at times, but not as it once was seasons previous.
"Another Half-Season Release,Hurray" August 8, 2007 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
Yeah that`s right volume 5 of Family guy is the first half of season 5 and not the complete season, another way to get more of your hard-earned money or to piss you off i don`t know.Family Guy had lots of troubles over the years and struggled just to appear on television. It was brought back because of the enourmous DVD sales and Fox uses that to their advantage and make more money by selling half season sets much to the anger of fans.
Besides that the episodes are still pretty solid but aren`t as good as they once were.Yet all the episodes are good and have their funny parts but it clearly ain`t what it was tought.Still a good season in my book just not anything so spectacular.
Here is the complete episode list for the season 5 DVD:
Disc 1 -Stewie Loves Lois -Mother Tucker -Hell Comes to Quahog -Saving Private Brian -Whistle While Your Wife Works -Prick Up Your Ears
Disc 2 -Chick Cancer -Barely Legal -Road to Rupert -Peter's Two Dads -The Tan Aquatic with Steve Zissou -Airport '07 -Bill and Peter's Bogus Journey
Bonus Features includes:
-Commentaries -38 deleted scenes -"Drawing Peter"featurette -"Toys,Toys Gallore"featurette -Three animatic episodes with commentaries"Stewie Loves Lois","Prick Up Your Ears" and "Chick Cancer" -And more
Why not a full season set release like other famous shows like The Simpsons or South Park or any other shows for what matters? For the next DVD release it should be a full season set!Season four made two volumes,3 and 4 but that wasn`t so bad because season 4 had thirty episodes and both sets had an equal total of 15 episodes.Season 5 has 18 episodes,13 on this set(vol.5)and vol.6 will have the remaining 5 episodes of season 5,now that is a HUGE RIP-OFF!Five episodes on one set come on!All this while you know that all of season 5 could have been on this set but no!
All of that causes confusion and anger amongst fans and all that just to get Fox more money, how pathetic is that?Besides that its a good season and an enjoyable set.
