From Amazon.com During the 1980s, one cartoon series ruled the airwaves... IThe Transformers/I. This paragon of consumerism was created with a dual purpose--to entertain and to galvanize children to buy the toys. Somewhere along the line, the show became a cult favorite, so in 1986 they fashioned an epic tale of good versus evil specifically for the big screen. The result looked vaguely like an animated remake of Star Wars. Who are the Transformers? The good guys are the Autobots: Optimus Prime, SoundWave, Jazz, Ultra Magnus, and many more. Their mortal enemies are the evil Decepticons, led by Megatron and StarScream. The Autobots must save their home planet from an evil entity known as Unicron (voiced by Orson Welles). At the same time, they must defend themselves from an all-out attack from the Decepticons. Along the way, lives are lost, battles are fought, and a new Autobot leader is born as another dies. The story and action never stop in a thrilling ride that often makes you forget that you're watching an '80s cartoon with inferior graphics. The violence will also come as a mild shock to those who haven't seen this film for a while--definitely a movie for the 8 and over audience. For those who grew up on this series, this is a movie that must be watched. Unlike cartoon serials before and after, IThe Transformers/I relied on solid stories and interesting characters, a manifesto the film itself upholds with gusto and grace while also being morally responsible. Don't underestimate this movie; there is definitely more to it than meets the eye. I--Jeremy Storey/I
Additional Features The International Version features a narrative that opens and closes the movie. The American Version, which does not have the narrative, contains one swear word.

One of the best animated movies of all-time and one of my favorites!! August 4, 2007 Vader I remember the scene when Stan Bush starts to sing "You got the touch, You got the power" when Optimus Prime transforms after saying Megatron must be stopped. We see the epic battle between Megatron and Optimus Prime and one scene that is burned into my head and I'll never forget that scene and that's when Megatron begs for mercy after being nearly destroyed by Optimus Prime. He pleads for mercy while reaching for something to ambush Optimus Prime. Hot Rod attempts to come to the rescue and Kup says that it's Prime's fight. The death scene in the movie is one that always upsets when Perceptor says "I fear the wounds are fatal. Daniel tearfully cries out, "Prime, you can't die". He passes the Matrix of Leadership to Ultra Magnus and Hot Rod catches it and the matrix flickers in Hot Rod's hand. He passes to Ultra Magnus and Magnus can't open it. "Light our darkest hour" and "until all are one". THe movie is in my head. Starscream becomes leader of the deceptions and the coronation is crashed by Galvatron- who destroys Starscream in a single blast. This movie is one of my favorite movies and it's hard to forget. One of my favorite movies. It's amazing. br / br /I remember the movie like it was yesterday. br / br /Who can forget "Arise, Rodimus Prime" and Rodimus sends Galvatron to a plasma bath. After 21 years, I still remember the movie like it was yesterday. br /

ok..i'm a huge transformers fan, but all the re-mastering and extras in the world can't fix a bad movie. where to start...? the how about the ultra cheesy 80's soundtrack(from the guy that did music for "staying alive"!!) with synth-pop and keyboards that kick in every action scene("the touch" by somebody named stan bush is among the most cornball things your ever gonna hear!)or the plot holes and bad writing that is really far worst then the TV series had. maybe i'm being too harsh because animation as come a long way from 1987 but you consider what the japan was doing at that time with stuff like akira, this comes across as pretty weak. its not all bad however, you DO get a great, new clean widescreen transfer, some cool retro TV ads and a trailer for the new live action movie. i still love transformers, the tv show was great and the new movie looks rockin' but this movie is just plain bad. oh well....optimus prime still rules!
The best release of this film to date. November 28, 2006 N. Peron (Ottawa, Ontario Canada) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the third release of Transformers: The Movie on DVD, and it is the best that there is to find. br / br /The original DVD release from Seville pictures, and it's successor released by Rhino Home Video have nothing on this. br / br /First and foremost: This edition is released by Sony, so you know they weren't scrimping on the reproduction of the film. It's a high quality transfer, great sound. br / br /If you're going to shell out money on a Transformers: The Movie DVD, this is the one to get. However, there are a few things you should know about it: br / br /1.) The "bonus footage and deleted scenes" are a small collection of clips, mostly test shots and unfinished scenes, and they show the promotional trailer of the film which features alternate versions of a few scenes, and ones that were cut out of the film. However, you've got the captions over top of everything and a commentary track you can't turn off. br / br /2.) The presentation of Scramble City, additionally has a commentary track you can't turn off, so the original Japanese audio is lost, and you've got some guy from the Transformers Collectors Club and one of the anal-retentive G-1 purists from www.tfw2005.com going on about the difference between Japanese and American Transformers (with obvious contempt and/or disdain.) Additionally there are no English subtitles. So if you want to watch a Transformers episode dubbed over by two guys who's opinions you don't care about explaining to you what's going on, on the screen, then this is for you. As for myself, I would have preferred if they kept the original audio track and had subtitles in English. That would have been a nice touch. br / br /3.) This is more for the sake of humor than a complaint or observation, but all of the old Transformers toy commercials are of poor quality (In fact, you can find better quality versions of them online if you look hard enough) and they also blurred out the faces of live people in the commercials (for obvious legal reasons, it's funny to watch) it's also funny watching the Japanese versions of these commercials that were just dubs of the American toy commercials. br / br /4.) The story board pictures are the same ones featured in the Rhino release. br / br /Other than that, I would have to say the bonus features aren't really that exciting, or interesting, or worth the hype. If you're going to buy this 20th Anniversary edition, buy it for the GREAT quality version of the movie. Otherwise your going to be disappointed.
A MUST for any transformer fan. November 12, 2006 djwerewolf (Canada) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This dvd has a ton of stuff plus even more in "easter eggs", basically everything you would want in a dvd for a very affoardable price. The only thing wrong with this dvd is that it didn't come out earlier.
One word AWSOME June 22, 2004 Joseph (Penna) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I went to see this movie when I was a teen in the theaters. It was an awesome movie to see in the theaters. Now my son is into the Transformers and found my VHS of the movie and plays it all the time. He actually likes it better than ARMADA, ENERGON BEAST WARS and MACHINE WARS. About 4 years ago I went thru a lot of trouble getting a VHS of the movie (It took me over a year of searching and finally I got it from a Canadian video company). I'm glad to see the DVD has come out. It is a great movie a lot of action, humor and watching it with my son he sees that war has consequences. Every now and then we will put sound thru the stereo and put the headphones on. Now I got to get the DVD because he may wear out the VHS.
