3 out of 5 stars This one has... BRAAAAIIIINS!   October 13, 2007

George A Romero returns to his cult "Of the Dead" franchise, and he is in fine form. As far a zombie movies go, it's a little light in the primal horror aspect than his others. "Land of the Dead" tries to make a political statement. Where his others focused more on society and the degenerative human nature. br / br /The zombies have never looked Dead-er, or more freaky than now. Not to mention they're getting smart, and starting to work together. It is a post-apocalyptic world, and clearly the Zombies are in charge. br / br /The HD picture quality is very, very nice. A clear improvement over DVD. However the movie loses some of it's WOW factor by being almost completely shot at night, or in darkened locales. The pitch dark scenes cause the movie to lose out in the normal depth range of other HD titles on the market. Not bad, but not a stand-out. br / br /The sound is mediocre at best. Presented in basic 5.1 surround, this movie is a disappointment. Flat, and uninspired. Even the DVD had DTS surround. A shame they couldn't replicate this audio to go with the HD image. br / br /The features are plentiful and informative, however, the disc must be flipped to the standard DVD side to be viewed. This was a hassle, and not worthy of release on the HD DVD format, which boasts the greatest level of interactivity. br / br /This is a fabulous movie, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but the lackluster quality of this HD transfer keeps me from scoring it above a 3 out of 5.

While the carnage was inspired, the actual movie on a whole was pale in comparison to Night and Dawn, and Day even had more of an atmosphere. The zombies communicating in moans and roars was ridiculous to watch. I hope Romero has another zombie epic worthy of a place next to Dawn and Night instead of this.

There are a lot of dead movies these days, but George Romero 'sbrdead movies will always be classics that can be re-watched over andbrover again. In this latest film, the feeding continues. The scriptbris not too bad, but the best here are the zombies make-up and effects....There a lot of bitting going around.br Also the zombies are getting a little smarter and that affects brthe movie also. Anyway great gore/ great fun/ and the bottom linebris that Land Of The Dead is not boring... Sure is fun to see Mr.brBad Boy himself..Denis Hopper playing another bad guy.brNow sit down, relax...have a bite...and enjoy a great zombie flick!!
