From Amazon.com Theatrically released in 1991 as IHighlander II: The Quickening/I, this sequel was later reedited and gained a small but loyal following (prompting a spinoff TV series), but at the time of its release critic Roger Ebert called it "the most hilariously incomprehensible movie ... almost awesome in its badness." In other words, you might find some guilty pleasure in this chaotic sequel to 1986's IHighlander/I, in which Christopher Lambert reprises his role as Connor MacLeod, a member of the alien race known as "Immortals," banished to Earth from his home planet Zeist some 500 years ago. In the year 1999, Lambert owns a corporation that has created a shield to protect the Earth following the depletion of the ozone layer. But the shield is seized by an evil cartel, and Virginia Madsen plays a scientist who assists MacLeod in his mission to destroy the cartel. Sean Connery also reprises his role from IHighlander/I as the Scottish Immortal named Ramirez (?!), but by the time he starts engaging in dashing swordplay you may wonder if he's wandered in from another movie altogether. IHighlander/I fans welcomed the laserdisc and DVD release of this "renegade" director's cut, which attempts to clarify the original version's confusing plot. The DVD includes THX and AC-3 audio, director and producers' commentary, a generous photo archive, and an original documentary about the making of the film. I--Jeff Shannon/I

Great Movie. July 17, 2004 Kevin Himpelmann (Morris, IL USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Now, before all of your heads explode, let me tell you why I say this. As a huge fan of the delightfully funny series Mystery Science Theater 3000, I have a strange appreciation for films commonly regarded as being the worst of the worst.brIf only MST3K had gone on with a larger budget for obtaining films, I think Highlander 2 could have made a standout episode for the crew of the ol' Sattelite of Love. Since they never made an MST3K around Highlander 2, a certain level of entertainment can be derived from sitting back and verbally ripping it to shreds with some buddies. brI urge you all to give it one more try while playing MST3K with a few of your friends. I strongly believe you will find a new appreciation for it based on this. Thank you.
SPECIAL EDITION?!?!?!?! You've got to be kidding... June 29, 2004 Dave Cordes (Denver, CO) First we got the re-edited "Renegade Version" which did absolutely nothing to improve this abominable sequel. Now they are "re-imagining" it with over 100 new visual effects shots!??!?!? Are they THAT DESPERATE?!?!?! We get THIS instead of the Richard Donner cut of Superman II?!?!?!? NOTHING and I mean NOTHING can redeem this film from being one of the worst sequels in film history. Why bother trying to polish a diamond out of a turd?
Beyond Bad October 15, 2002 Malleus 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first movie was one of my all time favorites, so I was thrilled to find out that there would be a sequel. I knew Michael Ironside would be a villan (good call), and somehow Sean Connery would be back (I wasn't sure how, considering he had died, but I was willing to suspend disbelief).pWhat a profound disappointment.pThe sequel was as bad as the original was good. They completely ignore any continuity and disavow the story line. I mean... my god!pWords fail to describe just how bad this movie is.
Terrible movie worst sequel September 16, 2001 max herzlich (Mt. Sinai, NY) This is movie is terrible. It is a lot more scientific than the other ones or the show. It focuses too much on the fact that the sun has been destroyed and the sky is red. The first half hour of the movie shows Christopher Lambert's character (Connor MacLeod) as a old man. Saying that he has claimed the prize and lived his life up to become an old man. Then it tosses u a completely different story then from the first one. It says that Connor MacLeod and Juan Ramirez(Sean Connery) are punished by becoming immortal and being sent to the future as in the renegade version and to earth from the planet Zeist in the original. And it claims that there are more immortals form the Planet Zeist or from the past that can challenge MacLeod thus making him immortal again. And then MacLeod can call Juan Ramirez even though he's been killed to help him. I dont recommed this movie. If u saw the first one and liked it, see Highlander 3 the final dimension, and highlander endgame.
Boring! August 9, 2001 LadyLestat (Birmingham, Alabama United States) Could this movie have possibly been any more boring than it was. I really didn't like this movie at all, and "Highlander" is one of my favorite movies. I considered "Highlander" to be a classic, and this movie was just a disgrace to "Highlander" fans. Giving this movie 2 stars was really being too kind.
